Dr. Jason Lee Andersen, DO

I had the worst experience possible trying to help my husband with a hypomanic episode. He has been hospitalized numerous times with acute mania and I was hoping for more support. The doctor did not validate my concerns for my husband's help and did not recognize the distress he truly was in. My husband was controlling, paranoid and manipulative during the entire session all evidences of his episode. I explained the job loss and inability to get work for 7 months (now 14 months) and his irritability and aggression, his less than 6 hours of sleep per night ongoing and an overall distrust he had. The doctor did not prescribe anything (anti-psychotic) to bring him out of the hypomania which he DID diagnose that day. Nor did he listen when I said anxiety medication was needful. Instead, he took him OFF the lithium and onto a different mood stabilizer at less than 1/2 the appropriate dose. And that is where he has stayed. I had already separated from him at the time of the visit. Now, we… are divorcing. The kids don't like their 'new' dad and can barely spend time with him. They don't know what dad is going to show up. So continually unstable. He is not talking to me, his family of origin or best friend of 40 years and has made enemies with all long term friends. But he of course has his strangers. Always talking to new people. Everywhere he goes. Also a sign of mania. So terribly sad. His mother and his brother also saw Dr. Andersen with my husband and he treated them with the same indifference. In cases of mental illness you HAVE to listen to the family. The patient is always going to be in denial. It's part of the illness. Beyond that he could barely keep his eyes open. My mother in law said the same thing. He never acted like he cared or was paying attention. The biggest fraud I have ever had to deal with. Go anywhere else!

My wife saw Dr. Andersen 5 or 6 years ago for depression and a substance abuse problem. She had seen a few other therapists with little improvement. After a short time with Dr. Andersen he adjusted her meds and worked a miracle by helping my wife get into a short-term rehab facility. While there, he was in daily contact with the staff and together they implemented an education and recovery strategy. While the stay was not pleasant, she learned and got a glimpse of what other patients were going through. Rehab with a "scared straight" bonus. That visit was the turning point - yes, very "lucky" and probably not typical! Dr. Andersen's aggressive and "connected" approach set him apart and made all the difference.

Dr Anderson is the best child psychiatrist we have been to in over 8 years of trying different doctors. I highly recommend him.
