Dr. Jau-Shin Lou, MD

My mother was the patient. We are having several neurological symptoms evaluated. Dr. Lou gave us an opinion about peripheral neuropathy. Our appointment was late due to another patient that needed care, however from the time he came in the room Dr. Lou was personable, professional, focused on our concerns and the evaluation. He was relaxed and patient with my mom who needs time to respond and he put her at ease with his friendly manner and smile. I am an RN and he gave a thorough and appropriate neuro exam, he reviewed Mom's records, asked pertinent questions, listened carefully to our questions and concerns and addressed each one. He suggested an EMG that could be done that afternoon to save us another trip. Overall the treatment we experienced was excellent and we have a better understanding of Mom's condition and what needs to be done next. We will not be seeing him for follow up but he encouraged us to contact him if we have any further questions.

Jau-Shin's clinic performed several diagnostic procedures on me, including a muscle biopsy, even though I provided them with the results from my first muscle biopsy, which was performed at a different clinic. For the follow-up appointment to the biopsy, Jau-Shin asked me a variety of technical questions that would be more appropriate for the patient to ask the doctor, which made me uncomfortable with his competency in the field of neuromuscular disease. I happen to have a background in biochemistry, but in this case, it was not my role to be answering the questions. What upset me more is that Jau-Shin indicated that he would consult other doctors at his clinic, and then get back to me about the next step. It's been 3 months that I have not heard from him, regardless of my several attempts to contact him! If he deemed it appropriate to perform a (second!) muscle biopsy, he should at least respond to me, whether or not there are significant findings. I do not recommend this physician.
