Dr. Javier Fortunato Cardenas, MD

I saw Javier Cardenas on the local news noted as being a world-class neurologist at Barrow's. I waited about 5 months to get in for an appointment with my daughter going along with me as I couldn't hardly take care of myself. I had been the victim of a horrific assault and had been in ICU and the hospital for 4 days, 4 fractures to the front and back of my skull, traumatic brain injury, brain hemorrhaging, acute subdural hematoma, almost a dislocated jaw, extreme eye injury, almost lost my eye, lost 36% of my hearing, horrific head injury and extreme mental trauma. I had just gotten out of the psych ward for extreme depression and anxiety which they did nothing except feed me psychotropic drugs and give me bologna sandwiches. When Dr. Cardenas took my vitals I had no reflexes of my joints and my pupils didn't even dilate. He was too busy with some intern that he had in with him. I could barely speak and walk. My daughter did all the communication and she articulately asked what… he could do for me. I was in abominable condition. She even asked about any type of medication or dementia drugs and he didn't recommend anything not even any supplements or vitamins. He suggested almost nothing, a psychiatrist and a speech therapist for a woman with extreme traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures to the skull. He didn't even recommend a follow-up visit. God willing I have recovered somewhat on my own which is a whole other story. Don't waste your time with Javier Cardenas. I can see other people have had a similar experience. He is a disgrace to the Barrow's name and I can't understand why he's still here.

Office staff is totally incompetent and rude. Difficult to get an appt,. multiple calls made before they even called back. There are plenty of other neurologists I can see with more friendly and competent staff.

Terrible doctor as far as I am concerned, will not listen to your complaints for any reason. Unless he see's evidence in a x-ray, ct scan, MRI, etc it doesn't exist. I tried to explain my symptoms to him and all I got was, we did x-ray and test I just can't justify what your telling me. But I guess that's what you get from a doctor that's being paid by workers compensation.

Found Dr. Cardenas to be really full of himself. He didn't do much of anything to accurately diagnose and help my child who has TBI. If you want caring and compassionate; in my opinion you've not found your doctor. Would not go back for any reason.
