Dr. Jay Edward Cowan, MD

My daughter had a tooth exposed and bonded here as we were referred by her ortho. The appointment started 40 minutes late. I was not allowed to be present during the procedure. After the procedure, I was taken to the back to meet my daughter and and receive after care instructions. My daughter was in tears. She had Dried blood caked to her mouth that was not cleaned up. Dr. Cowan came in to talk about the procedure and aftercare. He announced “no school today” And turned around to walk out. I asked about sports. He said no sports. And again attempted to leave. My daughter said she was in pain. He said “she is not in pain she is numb” and made his exit. I went to check out and retrieve forms for school that were not completed by the doctor. We waited for them. They are incomplete. They do not have a dosage listed. Upon leaving, my daughter told me during the procedure she was crying and informed Dr. Cowan and his staff she was in pain. He told her “you aren’t in pain stop crying”. I… am INCREDIBLY disappointed in the care received at Dr. Cowin’s office. I can only assume they do not allow a guardian back with a minor patient so no one is there to advocate for the child while the procedure is taking place. Maybe Dr. Cowan is a good fit for an adult that can advocate for themselves while under his care, but I would not recommend him to anyone with a minor child. He does not listen or respond to their concerns during treatment. Which, in my opinion is the ultimate form of patient mistreatment. I entrusted Dr. Cowan and his staff to care for my child. Up until this point, she has had no anxiety for any other procedures and generally tolerates pain well. I am devastated she had to experience this type of treatment at such a tender age, and can only hope this will not result in increased dental anxiety that so many struggle with.
