Dr. Jayson Bert Field, MD

He is an excellent surgeon but he also needs to focus on the "gynecologic oncologist" part as well. That includes listening, engaging, and being emotionally supportive as well. A general surgeon needs to be distant and robotic, because their goal is to get in there, fix it, then send the patient back to the referring physician. An oncologist IS your physician, so he needs to warm up and become more involved.

Dr Field and his team are great!! He is thorough and answers all questions. As a physician, he tells you like it is, but it may not be what you want to hear. I did a lot of research and he has an excellent reputation as a surgeon. I had a robotic assisted total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oophorectomy with minimal discomfort.

I've been a patient of Jayson Field for a while. Had an appointment today, in fact. He's not only very good at what he does, he is also passionate about doing it. My advice is simple. Allow him to ask all the questions first. He's methodical and methodical people do best when they finish what they start. Let him talk first, and he will give you the floor. He's actually a really gentle, kind, warm and funny person. I recommend him based on my first-hand experience with Dr. Field.

Arrogant, very strange. Makes you feel stupid for asking a question. He is rude and condescending. I can’t get past his personality.

This surgeon was recommended to our family for my mother. He ordered two tests and requested that we schedule an office visit to go over the results. We did so and the tests showed "a normal condition" but it was noted a benign condition existed. Upon asking about this benign condition, as I am not a medical professional, Dr. Field became increasingly agitated and did not want to discuss those results. I reminded him that he ordered these tests and asked us to return for an office visit to discuss these tests. He continued to become agitated and said so. We then asked for his professional opinion regarding a surgery, he said HE felt that if it were his family, he would select a particular option. While I appreciate his opinion, I also asked for quantifiable facts to be able to make OUR decision. He was unable to provide any real data on recent studies, etc. No one can know the future but we seek medical consultation to better assess what we should do when confronted with a… serious medical condition. He did not provide enough valid medical information to make an informed choice.

One year ago my Mother ( was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer while on an out of state vacation. She was so ill that we were afraid that she would not make it home to even see a doctor. When we finally did get her home she was referred by her GP to Dr. Field - and we were told that he was the best in the area. To be honest, we were also told that his bedside manner might not be the best. We chose to go to see Dr. Field - and are so glad that we did!! For her first appointment with Dr. Field, Mom was accompanied by 7 of us. The staff welcomed us all, even clearing out their lunch room so that all of us could sit and talk with the doctor. Dr. Field took Mom into an exam room, examined her and discussed her options, Mom made her decision and they both came into the lunch room. Dr. Field discussed Mom's options with all of us - reminding us that it was her choice as to which options she would take. We had all agreed prior to the appointment that we would agree with… whatever Mom wanted and we let the doctor know that. Mom told us her choices and then Dr. Field went around the room and asked each and everyone of us if we had any questions or needed any more information. He was so kind and understanding of how concerned and scared we all were. Dr. Field didn't sugar coat anything and was very honest and direct about Mom's condition and what options were available to her. Precisely the type of doctor we like and needed. Fast forward to this year - Mom is doing great! The course of treatment Dr. Field and Mom chose has worked better than any of us ever thought possible. Mom is looking and feeling wonderful. All of her numbers are great and the chemo has worked so well! Dad and at least one other family member go to every appointment and we are always welcomed warmly. The entire office staff are so caring and friendly - just as much as Dr. Field is!! Dr. Field - thank you so much for all you have done and continue to do for Mom (and all of us). For those of you reading this review please, please don't let a few negative comments prevent you from making an appointment with this wonderful doctor.

Please read patients. My visit with Dr. Field was the worst experience I have ever been through. He was verbally abusive, treating me like a child by correcting how I asked a question and also by my response. This happened with every question. His exact words to me were, "I love surgery because the patient is asleep and I don' have to talk to them like I am with you now." He also corrected my family history of gynecological cancer in my relatives that they had over 50 years ago and obviously never seen by him. He guesses on what could be wrong then admits he doesn't know. Arrogant, rude, insulting, verbally abusive, etc. He didn't explain the cyst he was more into trying to beat me down with insults on my answers and questions. To me this sounds more like domestic violence doesn't it?

I would not send any woman to this person. I had the displeasure of a consult with this person and he was rude, cocky, insensitive, uncaring, insulting and haughty. His own staff admitted he had poor bedside manor. I walked out of his office in tears just after I was to undress for an exam. There was no way I was going to get an exam by someone who made me feel so insulted. I later called his office manager and demanded that they not bill my insurance. I never heard a word from him.

The one thing I appreciated about Dr. Field's office is that they were very accommodating about making a quick appointment with me, as my gynecologist and I were concerned about a suspicious looking ovarian growth. However, my appointment was extremely disappointing. Dr. Field was the most patronizing doctor I have ever encountered. Even my husband, who attended my appointment with me, was astounded by what "a jerk" he was to me. After my appointment with Dr. Field, I saw a surgeon at the University of Michigan who was as kind as he was insulting. She ended up very competently performing surgery on me; I would think that the administration of Beaumont Hospital should be concerned about how much money they are losing by this doctor's extremely poor bedside manner. In addition, his diagnosis ended up being completely inaccurate. I'm glad we have many good options in southeastern Michigan, but if we didn't, I would drive or fly out of state before ever dealing with him again.

When I made my first call to Dr. Field's office I was scared, as I imagine any cancer patient would be. The girl that answered the phone (I wish I could remember her name) was SO kind and went above and beyond to get my appointment scheduled and make sure that she answered all of my questions. When I got there with my family for my initial consult and exam Dr. Field was very nice. He explained all of my options carefully and did not push for one kind of treatment over another, but rather, focused on making sure that I knew what my options are and what each choice would mean. He was very open and honest and even my sister (who has had an unrelated form of cancer twice before) was very impressed by his knowledge and how he presented my options to me. I was not a typical patient, being only 30 at the time of my diagnosis. I left that appointment feeling empowered by the knowledge I had gained and for the first time I was ready to meet my cancer head on and fight. I am now post op, cancer… free and still in awe over Dr. Field and his abilities. Confidence in your doctor is paramount to a feeling of ease during cancer treatments. Dr. Field gave me that. Because of him I celebrated my 31st birthday and look forward to many more. Patty and the rest of the nurses have been great at each visit and I have never felt more cared for or better looked after then when I was there for my surgery. There is no doubt in my mind that Dr. Field was the absolute best choice.
