Dr. Jean S Gearon, PhD

I worked with Jean for several years in individual therapy and as a member in one of her therapy groups. She treated me with kindness, respect, and genuineness and I saw her treat other clients exclusively in the same way. I experienced her as trustworthy, open, warm, caring, consistent, mature, grounded, hard-working, knowledgable, and insightful. I am very grateful for her and the work we were able to do together, and I carry that work with me into my own relationships as a parent, partner, friend, and professional.

I read the last patient's review, and it echoed my own experience. Ditto that treatment was damaging; she tells a lot of details about other patients; there are no treatment plans or goals; I found it infantilizing to be called "kiddo;" and she didn't give tools to deal with the anxiety. I would add that we spent a lot of time talking about her life and her opinions; she made decisions for me; she made herself the expert on my thoughts and feelings and needs and reality (rather than empowering me to be the expert); and she engaged in a lot of patient-blaming.

Damaging treatment. Goads patients, tells a lot of details about other patients, tells you to think of something else when you explain you can't control the anxiety, flat out said I wasn't trying hard enough with therapy. No treatment plan or goals, never followed up on things she said we would come back to, kept calling me kiddo even though I am a grown adult. Told me I would figure it out when I said I just didn't know what to do to help myself. What kind of therapy is this?
