Dr. Jeffrey W Chen, MD

I have worked with a number of psychiatrists since I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 24 years ago. Dr. Chen is the most professional and knowledgeable psychiatrist that I have seen to date. He listens and works with the patient. I feel very comfortable with him and have referred him to others.

I was shocked to read a previous review which gave such a low rating for Dr. Chen. Psychiatry is an exceptionally difficult field, since many of the medications are helpful for some individuals and yet have the opposite effect on others. It is a very long , discouraging process to find appropriate medications, as well as a competent psychiatrist who can offer some help for loved ones. Our family has two members with several different types of mental health issues. It has taken years to find an appropriate mix of medications that are enabling them to finally be living relatively happy, productive lives. Over that course of time, we dealt with five hospitalizations and four competent psychiatrists, and an additional eight psychiatrists, who were merely pill pushers, with very little knowledge of the issues, meds or real concern for the patient. One of our family members has been seeing Dr. Chen for two years and has always found him to be kind, patient and helpful.
