Dr. Jeffrey Eugene Schultz, MD

I've been a patient of Dr. Schultz for 20 years however the staff there is so poor I'm going to change Dr.'s. There is no follow-up, phone and communication skills are terrible. This is a real problem with this company. I'm writing this review not because Dr. Schultz is bad but the organization as a whole is.

The first 5 minutes of my appointment he spent detailing why I don't need surgery. Had the appointment ended there I would have given a 5 star review. The next 20 minutes of the appointment were spent telling me why he wouldn't perform surgery on me even if I needed it because he, "only operates on very skinny people." Thats a direct quote. He then proceeded to give me absolutely terrible dietary advice that goes against everything the dietician I see once a month has taught me. And to end the appointment he began to grab my legs and wrench them into positions that caused a great deal of pain. I don't know why he decided it important to show that moving in different ways causes pain. Its why I was there, I already knew that. In the end I'm relieved to not need surgery. I wouldn't want this doctor to perform it even if I did.

I would stay away from this doctor and California Orthopaedic. He operated on my knee in 2018. I had to have the knee operated again a year later to fix his mistakes and omissions and overall poor job as a surgeon. In addition he is pompous, treats you as if he is doing you a favor to even see you. He and the staff at California Orthopaedic have no follow-up with setting up the operation nor in inquiring afterwards to check and see if you are feeling okay. This is an awful place which explains how someone like Shultz would be working there. Unless you are looking for poor service, incompetence, and people who just don’t care about their patients, I recommend you avoid this place and this doctor.

I strongly advise that you do not use this "doctor" to operate on your knee nor California Orthopaedics, the company he works for. During the Spring of 2018, he operated on my knee. It took forever to get this set up because the California Orthopaedic office staff did not follow up with the paperwork, did not return any of my phone calls, and had an attitude that was very negative and aloof towards their patients. It was very frustrating trying to deal with them. Eventually I had to find their office manager to complain in order to push this surgery along. However, I should have gone with my intuition on this place and found another doctor. As it turned out, a year later when the knee pain and range of movement continued to get worse, I found another surgeon to redo the entire operation. As you may know, most doctors don't like to criticize the work of other doctors. However, my second surgeon found so many mistakes and omissions in the surgery performed by Dr. Shultz that he was… amazed at how incompetent the original work was performed. In addition, unless you care to deal with such a pompous doctor, so full of himself and not interested in listening to his patient ... I'd stay far away from this doctor and the organization that he works for.

It took 2 HOURS to see the doctor, causing me to be late to pick up my son. It took his assistant 4 WEEKS to submit my surgery authorization to my insurance. There was no way to speak to the doctor directly. I was always funneled back to his assistant.

Dr Schultz is the consummate professional. He has repaired my knee and shoulder and both are better than prior to injury

WORST office staff I have ever encountered in a health care facility. Receptionist is rude, unfriendly, and beyond unpleasant. This does not exactly make for a good first impression to someone who is already in pain and probably nervous about their injury. Dr. Schultz may have a lot of experience, but spends little time with his patients and seems to care even less about the patients in general. I would not wish this place on my worst enemy.
