Dr. Jeffrey Hal Sonis, MD

Dr Sonis has been my primary care physician for 15 years. I am deeply thankful for the care I have received. As an older person, now in my early seventies, I have had a number of health concerns. Dr Sonis was relentless in his efforts to get my cholesterol level down. He tried a number of drug combinations to find the most effective and ultimately referred me to cardiology who concluded that I was being "treated appropriately." But I am most thankful for the way that rising but still normal PSA levels led him to refer me to Urology who found prostate cancer at a very early and eminently treatable stage. I will never forget his call to me at home the evening that I received my diagnosis from urology. He wanted to see how I was reacting to the diagnosis and whether I had any questions about treatment options. I was deeply touched by his caring and concern.

He reminds me of House - the doctor from the tv show. He is very intelligent and seems to know what direction he wants to take when evaluating me. I really like him and I would like to make him my regular doctor even though I live so far from his office. He even called me at 8:30 pm to review test results - now that is a good doctor! After reading the other reviews you have to ask yourself; do you want a best friend or a good physician. I want someone who will tell me what is wrong with me and tell me how to fix it.

Dr. Sonis is hurried and superficial. He does things by the manual with no lee-way. He seems to hate his job. He is not compassionate or empathetic. He seems to watch the clock while he's seeing you. Whenever I ask him if I need such and such (trying to be proactive about my own healthcare), he always asks, "Do you want one?" so that I have to ask back, "Do I need one?". It's his job to know whether I need a test or whatever, not my job to "want one" or not. Don't recommend. He speaks and writes like a lawyer. He volunteers NOTHING.

Dr. Sonis had a very bad disposition. He was very agitated and seem to take it out on me. He was not kind or empathetic to my situation. This was my first and last visit with Sonis. I was not pleased and thought he didn't have my best interest in mind. He was not sensitive to my situation at all. He seemed very nervous and yelled at me.
