She is not familiar with mast cell disorders nor is she interested in learning about it. My child was having hives, severe facial swelling, flushing, anaphylaxis... yet her skin test was normal and chronic urticaria were normal. I brought up mast cell due to my family history and she tested my child’s tryptase which was normal. She said it can’t be mast cell due to the normal tryptase! A year of my child going into reactions requiring several hospitalizations and 66 missed days of school, Dr Geneter tells me “some kids tend to be red and swell. You need to learn to live with it.” That was it! Never went back. My child’ new doctor tested her urine and it was very high in N methylhistmine and prostaglandin f2a on 5 separate occasions over a years time. Without a doubt, she has mast cell.

Dr. Gentner was great. She was an active listener and asked lots of questions. Although my medical condition didn't wind up being allergy caused, she tried to problem solve and suggest ways for me to move forward. She did diagnose me with something I've had for a while and didn't realize it had a name. She's very thorough and sent to my PCP the most complete write-up of a doctor visit I've ever seen. I can't say enough good things about my experience.
