I have gone to the VA for my PTSD and other mental health issues.
Dr. Perry took great care to understand my past and my present issues.
She took time to explain certain concepts, and discussed them in detail to me many many times due to my problems with confusion and understanding.
Twice that I was on the brink of throwing in the towel of life, I assured myself that after my session with her, I was going to end it all and eliminate the nightmares once and for all.
On both of these separate occasions, I hid what I was going to do afterwards, however without asking me what was in my brain, she read me like a cover of a book, and with some simple words, she painted a perfect picture in my head of how I was, how I saw things in a terrible light, and what I should consider, and so much more, and with about a sentence or two of words!!!
I cried as I drove away from the VA to my mom's house.
She had placed a seed of thought in my mind that REALLY MADE ME THINK!
This happened on two… separate occasions!!!
She listened to my pathetic mental health issues each time I had a session with her, she remembered things that we discussed even after a few years, and she READ ME LIKE A COVER OF A BOOK!
It was like she knew exactly what to say, when to say it, and what to ask me too!
She put me through P.E. Prolonged Exposure therapy, but when it got too hard for me to handle it, she had me stop.
She gave me time to get myself back together, and then after a few months, started a different form of therapy.
All the while she gave me homework to do, and this I found very helpful!
I think that veterans that slacked on the homework probably couldn't find the therapy as profound as I did, because the homework was and still is so helpful!
I went to group sessions, and went many times, and I feel that if I could, I would go to her therapy group sessions again for refreshers!
YES! I still have PTSD, nightmares, ADHD, and a host of other things, but I would never be able to make changes in my life if Dr. Perry did not analyze me thoroughly enough to help me find out that I not only suffered with the nightmares and PTSD, but also ADHD, and Bi-Polar disorder too!
I suffered with these things all of my life but didn't know why I suffered with these things until Dr. Perry informed me exactly what was going on with me, and how I can handle these many ailments of mental health that took me off my intended goals all throughout my life!
To understand that I had a this debilitating illness that made it hard for me to learn as others did, or as fast as others did, and now how to handle it especially when a period or bout of maniac depression or mania had overtaken me by storm is such a WOW! RELIEF!
NO I AM NOT BETTER!
HOWEVER, I HANDLE IT BETTER!
I think that Dr. Perry is Pinnacle to her colleagues as a psychologist, and a fine Doctor for all of her patience, even if they don't see it, or understand her decisions for what therapy or homework, or anything else that she takes note of or makes note of.
I give Dr. Perry five stars, but she deserves ten in my book because of her intelligence and professionalism, and dedication to all of her patience!
Thank You Dr. Perry for saving my life twice! Your college money and time learning was well spent to the saving of my life and helping me through day to day difficulties!
