She is one of the best doctors I’ve had. I have several medical issues which she has taken care of and I’m very happy with my care.

Been a patient of UW clinics for 10 + years and seen many Providers and specialists for my chronic gout attacks. I’ve been to internal medicine, to sports med clinic, bone and joint, arthritis clinic..etc etc and all of the doctors I’ve seen diagnosed my condition as gout and each treated it the same with prescription drugs. Ive been suffering from this condition for almost 30 years and have been in to the doctors many many times. When my last provider left, I was referred to a NEW provider Dr J. Shen who had just joined the clinic and needed patients. Reluctant to select her as my PCP, I told myself to give her a chance. It’s been several years now and today I went in as usual to get some work related documents filled out for my chronic gout condition. Mind you, all my PCP have been filling this out without a problem and Dr Shen has been filling out this form 2x a year for several years now. Today her reaction was different. She refused to fill it out citing she’s never seen me… for gout and doesn't know if I really have it. I asked if all the diagnosis I’ve had in the past validate and confirm I suffer from this disease. She told me the only way she was going to fill out the form was if she physically saw me during a gout attack. So I either have to be on crutches or in a wheel chair and drive myself to the clinic so she can confirm I actually have this disease. I also risk the possibility of hurting myself or the general public if I drive while disabled. The purpose of this form is to say I suffer from this disease and I can be excused from work x amount of times without a doctors note. I guess my medical records aren’t enough to prove my chronic condition. Now Im waiting for word to see if my work will excuse the days I missed or be terminated. I’m shocked, confused, and angry all at the same time. And FYI, 90% of both sides of my parents immediate family suffer from chronic gout and all 5 of us kids suffer form it. Over 50% of my cousins have it and now my nephews have it. Umm, could this be hereditary?? I would think so!

Dr. Shen listened, she diagnose my problem, said what we're going to do, send me results thru ecare. Makes u feel better thru her caring n competent attitude.

OK clinic. Frustrating UW system. Unable to actually talk with the office or the nurse!
