Dr. Jerome Charles Spiegel, MD

I am NOT understanding this man's high ratings. My daughter (age 22) and I had our first appointment with him to discuss a lump on her thyroid. First, he has NO sense of personal space. His face was inches from my daughters the entire time (standing/leaning against the chair she was in). Second, when asked questions he was indignant and his facial expressions indicated that we were being ridiculous with our inquiries. The recommendation includes surgery to find out if a tumor is most likely 85% benign, BUT the thyroid could stop working after surgery in 50% of the cases! I think it is reasonable to want to probe further because my daughter may be on medication for the next 60 years after finding out something is benign. Heaven forbid we should question a surgeon!

I was referred to this Dr via my Pcp doctor without a blood test to confirm a diagnosis. He wanted to do a needle biopsy on a nodule I have had for over 30 yrs (no problems). I told him I needed to think about it and I asked what the cost would be and he replied: you have to contact the hospital for that info and he seemed upset with me. He wrote a prescription for blood work to give to my pcp to do and asked me why I was referred to him! Not a very professional manner in my opinion to treat a patient. Will not return to this Dr. Good luck

Very nonsympathtic to symptoms that I have concerning my thyroid which I had part of removed by his partner whom is deceased. Stated I needed to see someone else since he is just a surgeon. Even though he is the one that tells me I need to keep coming back to get blood work done to check my throid levels. His partner had me on Synthroid for my symptoms & since blood work shows no changes he took me off of the med. & states he doesn't treat symptoms just because I say I have them. Being a nurse, I would not recommend him to anyone. He is very arrogant & uncaring & definately does not listen to his patients. When I mentioned his behavior to my family doctor, she stated she had had other patients complain about his attitude.

Dr. Spiegel is observant and attentive to the patient. He is reassuring and supportive. I appreciate his time and calm approach to my surgical needs.

Dr. Spiegel has a great bedside manner,and explains things very clearly in a way patients can understand. He takes the time I have not seen with other surgeons. Every condition/procedure is of course unique in complexity, but I felt immediately better following my surgery (as in being rolled from the recovery room to my hospital room). His follow-up is timely and thorough, and the staff were excellent also about answering questions I had following my surgery. I had no complications and am doing well today. You can truly rest assured if you are in the care of Dr. Spiegel and his staff!
