Terrible waste of time, He is very Arogant.

I saw Dr. Markar for a new patient visit at UCLA Pain Management. The appointment lasted approximately 5–10 minutes and included a very brief physical exam. No treatment was provided; I was advised to obtain an MRI. The visit was billed as a high-level consultation (CPT 99244), resulting in a significant out-of-pocket charge. (Billed insurance $1,100 and $390 out of pocket). I requested a coding review, which was ultimately declined based on physician documentation time. Patients should be aware of how brief visits may be coded and billed. I would avoid.

Hi, I would like to leave a review on Dr. Markar. I feel he is a Amazing Pain Management guy. His bed side manners are great and his ability to express his procedures are Awesome. He's very understanding and compassionate and is always making sure you are comfortable. In office he is very thorough and asks the right question. Wants to make sure you both understand what is being discussed and that the person who he is treating leaves with full understanding. I recommend Dr. Markar for your pain. Gary Hunter

i made an appointment in september at the recommendation of my current doctor (who is leaving), explaining that i need a new doc to continue bot-x treatments for migraines. the woman who made the appointment fully understood why i was making the appointment; in fact, she initially wanted to schedule me for later in the year when my next bot-x appt was due (but i wanted to get the initial consult out of the way asap). i filled out online paperwork and it wasn't until THE MORNING OF THE APPOINTMENT that i received a phone call informing me that "THE DOCTOR DOES NOT TREAT MIGRAINES (but would be happy to see you)." when i called to speak with the person who left the message he couldn't explain how or why the appointment was made in the first place nor why i was just hearing about it now, only that "i can understand your frustration." there are plenty of doctors in the area - go to one that has their sh-t together, takes responsibility for mistakes and cares about their patient's time.

Dr Markar saved my life! After almost 2 years of poor care from an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Markar quickly got to the bottom of what was going on with me and referred me to a neurologist who discovered a paralyzing tumor around my spinal cord. Dr. Markar was curious, empathetic, and professional. He went out of his way to help me navigate a complicated medical systems and find the care that saved my legs and my life! His office staff are responsive, competent, and friendly. I’m so grateful for Dr Markar and his willingness to preserver when other doctors couldn’t figure out why I had so much pain.

Everything in the one-star review is ridiculous. Dr. Markar is a consummate professional who is attentive, empathetic, knowledgeable, and has none of the messiah complex that turns off so many patients. He is what you hope for in a doctor whose only concern is your well-being.
