Dr. Jessica Lynn Burgers, MD

I went to Dr. Burgers to investigate a lump that had been growing bigger. She let me know it seemed like a phyllodes tumor and recommended surgery which I decided to do.Her office staff is friendly and always answers the phone directly when they are open so I can get answers quickly and easily. Her nurse and scheduler helped to put me at ease and were wonderful. Dr. Burgers was great as well - calm, caring and took time to answer my long list of questions. All followup appointments were smooth. One hiccup was someone forgot to call me and let me know the cost of a visit so I was surprised the day of the visit. They were willing to work with me and took a part of the fee so I could proceed with the appt.I had a plastic surgeon close the wound after Dr. Burgers removed the tumor since they were removing about 20% of my right breasr. She got the entire tumor and turns out it was benign. The healing process went smoothly and I would recommend Dr. Burgers to all I know

This is the worst thing I've had to go through in life. I wasn't expecting perfection but the surgical results were not very good. She made a few mistakes and I can't find anyone to do a revision. I wish I could have just moved on with my life. The way these websites calculate "11 years experience" is questionable. This woman has rudimentary skills - do not let any doctor with less than 15 years experience do cancer surgery on you. I did and I regret it daily.

Cosmetically I am disappointed and I have swelling in my armpit, years after surgery. She acted like lymphedema risks were low, but not only has it drastically lowered my quality of life, I can't find anyone to help me who knows about truncal swelling. Having her remove my lymph nodes is the biggest regret of my life. I used to be an active woman, now I am uncomfortable from basic movements and can barely do day to day functions because of this.

She did my surgery about 2 years ago, my skin on that side does not move well - not because it isn't healed - she did not sew the sides together well, gave me a wavy, weird looking scar that I can see made it difficult to sew together, and she left behind the tissue at the bottom of the breast. I told her how concerned I was about cosmetic outcome - THIS IS MY LIFE! and I still have a lot left to live - but she was casual and did not care. I did not want her as my surgeon but at the time had no choice due to scheduling. I was naive, and deeply regret letting her be my surgeon.

Jessica Burgers is not that great of a surgeon. She messed up my axilla area when removing two lymph nodes with my mastectomy for breast cancer. She has only been a breast surgeon and not even - just started a fellowship - since 2017. Her "years of experience" online are that of just having a medical degree. I am quite certain if I got to have an experienced surgeon I would not be having the issues now. She downplayed the risks of lymphedema and told me not to worry about it, now intermittent swelling plagues my life, 2 years after surgery. I have had a swollen node due to damage she caused to the area since the date of my surgery. This has been very stressful, calling for multiple biopsies etc. I only had DCIS and am in my 30s. This should have been a smoother process. I was never warned that once you have lymphedema, barely any doctors know about it, or how to relieve it unless you have an arm that is visibly swollen. Swelling has pushed my ribs out of place and nobody can help me… with that. In addition to her crude removal of my lymph nodes, I have cosmetic asymmetry. I should have just plunged myself into debt and found a better, more experienced surgeon. This is my first health ordeal, so I didn't know better. I wish I had been in better hands. I guess it's my fault for being a low income person and not having had better access to care.

Dr. Jessica Burgers is great! She is knowledgeable, patient and takes the time to answer all my questions. I felt so comfortable with her. I wish all the doctors were like her.I highly recommend her.

Although I did not get reconstruction, cosmetic results were very important to me. I emphasized this many times in many ways to Dr. Burgers. I feel deceived that I was never told two people would be operating on me, I have two different incisions by two different doctors despite telling her how important symmetry is to me. A much more experienced doctor did my cancer side, and Dr. Burgers, my prophylactic side. I would have never removed a health breast if I knew the results would be this flawed. The whole point of doing it all at once was for symmetry and to have "the same person" remove both breasts. I have a nice, professional straight line on one side, and the side that Burgers did, a sort of horizontal question mark. She tried to cover for herself by lying, saying that she had to go up farther into my armpit on the prophylactic side because they didn't remove lymph nodes there. I know this is not true, because I see many incisions on women that are just a horizontal line that… don't hook up into the armpit. Regardless, she left behind skin in that armpit anyway. I was not large breasted or overweight. She simply lacked the skills to give me good results. I hate to look down and see the beautiful results given to me by the experienced doctor, and Dr. Burgers practice side. I would give anything to go back in time and have the more experienced doctor do both, so I could match. This will probably bother me for the rest of my life. Do not let this woman operate on you until she has 10 years experience, 2027. Unfortunately I had to deal with her early on in her career.

Dr Burgers is a very kind and patient doctor. She spends so much time answering questions and draws her explanations on a board so I can understand. The office is great at answering the phone and they are prompt in returning calls.

This whole process would have been easier if Dr. Burgers gave me better cosmetic results. She removed my breast and gave me a jagged scar, she left fat behind and right by that I also have a dent. There are also some scar wrinkles where she pushed my skin back together, and extra folds in my armpit. She did not really do any aspect of my surgery well. It bothers me every single day, yet no surgeon can help me correct these flaws. I wish someone else had operated on me.

I was diagnosed with breast lobular carcinoma. Dr. Burgers was my surgeon. She is skilled, caring and patiently answered my questions. She has some additional breast training that I believe helped with my excellent cosmetic outcome. Her office coordinated a team of Drs. for my oncology/radiation care after surgery. This process has gone smoothly.
