Dr. Jessica L Ransom, PhD

I have been seeing Dr. Ransom for a few months now and I feel better when I didn't think I could! I took way too long to get in therapy in the first place so I don't think things will be better right away. It's overwhelming sometimes but Dr. Ransom takes the time, even if I want to obsess on one thing for an hour. She is patient with me, which I appreciate. She also has a sense of humor mixed in with her compassion so even though some things are tough to talk about, it can feel like its ok. She gave me a realistic view of what's involved and that things wouldn't happen overnight so at least I wasn't disappointed after a couple of sessions. It seems things were explained well at the beginning like the things with payment and insurance and scheduling. It must have been because I haven't had any problems with that. I've never felt pressured to make a ton of appointments and my schedule varies but I've not had any problems making my next appointment. I feel encouraged by her and… that she actually cares if I'm feeling well or not. I definitely do not feel like just another patient or a number. It's nice to know that I matter, that what I think and feel matters. Sometimes I don't feel it about myself but Dr. Ransom genuinely cares and it shows. Also, not that its a make it or break it thing, but the office is well designed too and I feel like her office gives me privacy. 5 stars is the right rating for her!! ~Jenna

I honestly can't say enough good things about Dr. Ransom. From my experience with her, the previous reviews are extremely off. She's never pushy (honestly, I'M the one who reminds her I need to pay my co-pay), she's incredibly flexible with her & my schedule, she's upfront about her language (and mentioned if it wasn't my thing, she might not be a good fit). I've been to a lot of therapists and she's the only one I've ever truly connected with. I can tell she truly wants to help and knows when/how to push me to talk about uncomfortable things. I love how much of a feminist she is. I love how she can be tough but has a soft side. I love how she doesn't judge. I love how I feel safe talking to her. Don't let the previous reviews scare you off. She's incredibly smart. Easy to talk to. Just someone you want to spend time with. I've never looked forward to therapy before until I started seeing Dr. Ransom. This chick's the real deal, folks.

I was charged for the first appointment even though I was under the impression it was just a conversation to see if she was the right fit. I felt that she passively coerced me into booking another appointment after this first conversation, and after each session, as if I wanted to work with her. There was never a discussion about if I wanted to see her or book another session. Someone described her as "pushy", I would have to agree. Furthermore, I felt she did not have the professional capabilities or experience to help me through the particular difficult life experience I was going through at the time. As I shared my background she seemed to jump to conclusions. I felt as though she asked leading questions. Her assumptions did not resonate and overall I felt she did not understand my experience, nor how I was feeling. If she felt she did not have the adequate background to address my unique experience, I do wish she would have honestly vocalized this so I could find someone with… such experience. I did not feel true compassion nor genuine empathy. Later, I received texts and phone calls because she "had info" for me. I was not particularly interested in booking another session nor receiving "info" from her. However, when we were able to connect, it turns out I had an outstanding payment for a canceled session, and that was why she was incessantly calling and texting. It seemed odd, passive, and like unprofessional communication. I wish she been forthright and had simply told me I had an outstanding payment, so I could have taken care of it promptly. Overall, I desire more evolved communication, honesty, compassion, and professionalism in a mental healthcare provider.

Bait and switch appointment setting. You don't always end up at an appointment with who you scheduled with. Treating people like a commodity to work a business model.

Very unprofessional by cursing a lot and trying to seem "cool". Very pushy in my first session told me she took me insurance but I found out she didn't and charged me a big bill. Then she sends me a text on the weekend asking for my credit card information. She would not give me an EOB explaining the charges which is another red flag She told me I was a "bad ***" and wanted to continue seeing me. Be careful with her! Don't let her take advantage of you. Went to one session and I will never go back.
