This isn’t my first go around for back surgery and Dr. Shellock has done all of my procedures, different areas. Dr. Shellock’s knowledge and skills are very apparent! She has always taken great care of me and my back and I am grateful for all she has done for me! Thank you Dr. Shellock!

Over the past 6 months I suffered from excruciating lower back pain from a herniated disc. After exhausting all other options I went to see Dr. Shellock at the Texas Back Institute in Plano. My first impressions were her incredible professional manner and medical knowledge about spinal surgery. She explained everything I needed to know and gave me complete confidence going into the procedure. She made several follow up calls to make sure all my questions were answered prior to surgery. Amazingly, after the surgery I woke up without any pain in my back or lower leg! In the hospital she was kind enough to stop by several times to see how recovery was going and to see if there was anything else she could do to help me. 4 weeks later I am still completely pain free and I have her to thank for everything. Thank you for everything Dr. Shellock. You are an amazing doctor!!!

Dr. Shellock is one of the kindest, most approachable surgeons I’ve ever met. Totally unexpected considering her outstanding level of expertise. I’m six weeks post surgery for lumbar decompression and Coflex implant to help buy me time so I could avoid a highly invasive fusion surgery during this pandemic, and at this time in my life. All I can say is “Do not wait another minute!” Do not suffer needlessly! Dr.Shellock fixed my hip and leg pain caused by my severe spinal stenosis and had me up and walking the same day! Left the hospital within 24 hours! Six weeks ago and I caught myself literally running up the stairs to physical therapy pain free! I still have some lower lumbar pain from the bad disc, but I have my life back. I don’t think there are words enough to thank this brilliant surgeon. Her staff has also gone beyond my expectations-extremely responsive, compassionate and knowledgeable. Absolutely 5 stars from me!

Dr. Shellock is clearly knowledgeable, skilled and an expert in her field, however, she is dismissive when it comes to simple cases and she seems to forget the human behind the worry. She has poor bedside manner and compared my concerns to other patients. She said: "Oh no compared to what I've seen, what you have isn't bad or unsightly." This didn't sit well with me. While my situation might not be nearly as bad as what she sees daily, that doesn't make it any better for me. Only visit her if you have an extreme ailment or something serious. If what you're experiencing is minor, expect to be dismissed and not taken seriously.

I would highly recommend Dr. Shellock. My wife and I asked many questions going into this surgery because it was my second surgery to repair the same disc. She is very knowledgeable with all aspects of the procedure including current research and what findings are out about long-term expectations for disc replacement. She spent as much time as I needed with me answering questions and explaining the procedure to me from pre-op through 8 weeks after. I am more than 12 weeks out from surgery and have not come across anything that was not expected and explained. The entire staff at Texas Back Institute Plano was excellent. My legs and lower back feel stronger than they have in years and I have not second-guessed my decision once.

Dr. Jessica Shellock helped me get back to a pain free life! I had no option except for surgery following other options with my local ortho doc in Arkanas. Dr. Shellock performed my laminectomy on L3-L5. Her entire team were so caring and thorough through the entire process. Dr. Shellock is an expert in her field... and that extreme knowledge gives her a leg up when it comes to caring for her patients. She treated me as if i was the most important person she was caring for! I can't say enough great things about my experience with Dr. Shellock. If you have even the slightest idea that something may need to be done for your spine/back/pain... you would do yourself an advantage to get an opinion consult with Dr. Shellock. She is my friend for life!

Dr. Shellock has performed 2 surgeries on me - lumbar laminectomy approximately 5 years ago and neck fusion of C5/C6 2 months ago. She is an outstanding physician associated with the Texas Back Institute. Both surgeries were successful and resolved their associated issues. She is direct and to the point. I highly recommend her as a physicial and surgeon.

Dr. Shellock told me that I needed back surgery at the young age of 21. Herniated disc is all I was suffering from. Trusting her judgment was the greatest mistake of my life. What was supposed to be a minor surgery (discectomy) turned into major nerve damage and a lifetime of chronic pain. 2 weeks out of the hospital from the first surgery, I woke up to find the wound over my L4/L5 swollen to the size of a baseball - I had staph infection under the wound, in and around my spinal column. I was rushed in for a second surgery to clear the infection. 2 weeks out from my 2nd surgery, I woke up to find the same swelling. Again, the size of a baseball. Turns out, Dr. Shellock hadn’t removed the entire infection. I was again rushed into surgery for the 3rd time in a month and a half. The repeated infection caused nerve damage, leaving me with chronic pain, which doctors have told me to expect for the rest of my life. For 7 years I was left to take a large regiment of pain medication (from… hydrocodone 10mg - 6/day to oxycodone 15mg - 6/day, butran patches, etc.) Not only has this greatly diminished my quality of life from a young age, but it caused me nearly a decade of opiate addiction. I’ve recently come off the pain medication, which has been an immense struggle, but there comes a time when you start to question if the side effects of addiction are worth pain relief. Jury’s still out on that one. At the age of 21, I should have never underwent back surgery. Far too young for such an operation. I’ve seen a couple of other reviews noting her arrogance - these comments are on point. Extremely arrogant, no bedside manner, no empathy or compassion. She showed no remorse for her errors, and treated me with little to no respect. I truly hope Dr. Shellock has changed things around. Regardless of the challenges she’s caused me, I would wish the best for any person, but please beware selecting this surgeon. To think what my life could have been without this... I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.
