Dr. Jianhui Zhang, MD

I have never been so disappointed by an experience with a specialist. I visited Dr. Zhang for migraine headaches. My appointment was a total of 10 minutes during which the first thing she asked me was if I was interested in being prescribed medication. She asked me where on my head I felt the headaches, and how long I’ve been getting them for. She asked me if I wanted to do an MRI, again followed up four or five more times by asking if I wanted to be prescribed a medication. Multiple times I told her that I’m open to all potential treatments, but would want to understand the root cause and discuss what those medication options are as well as their side effects before being prescribed something. Despite saying this over and over again, she kept going back to medication, eventually offering up specific medications instead of just asking in general, even though my answer was the same every time. Add about the five minute mark, she had begun her dismissal of me preparing to send me to go… make my follow up appointment with the front desk. At this point, I asked her if she would be running any other tests, such as getting bloodwork, if she wanted to discuss Correl ation I’d noticed with what brings them on, etc. to try and figure out where they might be stemming from so that we can treat the root cause. She told me that’s not necessary and that it doesn’t matter because the treatment is the same either way… Those were her exact words. I followed up by asking if migraines were ever a symptom of other issues and wouldn’t we want to see what those issues could be. She said that’s why we’re doing the MRI to see if there’s anything in your brain. I asked if there were any other things that could ever have migraines and headaches as a symptom that would be worth looking into and she outright said no. How do I not ask these follow up questions the entire appointment would have been five minutes long. It was only 10 minutes long because I spent five minutes begging her to cast a broader net to help me figure out what the root cause of the issue is and she was absolutely unwilling, even when I have very directly asked multiple times. It’s disgusting to me that this person is trusted to provide medical advice when they aren’t interested in actually determining what may be causing the issue, just prescribing medication. And beyond that it’s disgusting that I will be spending hundreds of dollars on what would have been a five minute appointment if I hadn’t spent time desperately trying to get her to actually help me.
