Absolutely no complaints, a competent and skilled surgeon.Second surgery with Dr Gavras in a year, both performed extremely well without problems.

I’ve known Dr. Gavras for many years. He has operated on me and many of my associates, in this community, over the years. He is highly skilled, professional, compassionate. If I ever require the use of a general surgeon again, I will definitely use him. I have the utmost of confidence in him.

Per the doctor,I liked his comment(move Around) after surgery . Very knowledgeable.

Had minimally invasive bilateral hernia op last week with Dr Gavras last week, I regard the op as very successful and would happily see Dr Gavras again for surgery. He was both personable and caring. Absolutely no complaints.

Here's my review on Dr Gavras. After months of constant pain in my lower right ribs my gp had an ultrasound done and found out it was a gallstone that I would have to see the recommended surgeon and get it taken out. The first appointment I'd say went well, Hus front desk employee were really nice and patient as there was a draw back which made my wait a little linger (30 min), once I got into a room his nurse Mrs Margrett I believe her name was asked me the routine questions and from there I waited in Dr gavras. which wasn't long at all. Once he entered my room, he greeted himself and went over my ultrasound info, he even drew out what happens with gallstones and why mine would need to be removed. He asked if I had any additional questuons in which I didn't and left to the next patient. His nurse then set up my surgery. I will say Dr Gavras could tell I was nervous and scared even at the hospital, BUT Thomas hospital and his staff did everything to help me stay calm make sure… I was comfortable and explained everything. Dr Gavras evem checked on me. Surgery didn't take long as I didn't think it would, after surgery I work up in recovery where I can't say I really remember much except getting wheeled to post op from there about an hr later ii wentthoughthat day. My recovery was good and surgery went better than I thought. Overall I'd give Dr Gavras a 10. Hope this helps.

Dr. Gavras seemed nice enough on my first visit with him. I asked if i could benefit from more diagnostic tests before committing to surgery. He said no that he would just go in and see what was needed and go from there. I had numerous abdominal wall tears and was in a lot of pain. I waited six months before having the surgery, hoping that I could heal myself. The lower left abdominal pain that I had was very severe so I finally went in for the surgery. Somehow the time that I was told to be there was wrong and I was late according to their schedule. I had never had surgery before and was rushed through everything with them trying to get back on schedule. The surgery was hurried also. It revealed that I multiple major tears with numerous minor tears surrounding each one of them. Dr. Gavras used a large one piece mesh to make the multiple repairs. When I came out from under the anesthesia I was in tremendous pain. I just thought that it was due to the surgery and would start to fade… after a few days. Dr. Gavras gave me a prescription for 12 low dose pain meds and sent me Home. I was in complete agony even with the meds and even more so when they ran out after a couple of days. I had a follow up office visit a week later and asked Dr. Gavras about the pain and he said it would eventually go away. I went back Home with no further pain medication prescribed and was in constant high level pain. My Beautiful Daughter is an Rn and went with me to my next appt. As I was trying to explain to Dr. Gavras about how much pain I was still in he interrupted me and said that he had heard enough and that he got it okay. He spoke very harshly to me in front of my Beautiful Daughter and we were both shocked by his bizarre behavior to say the least. He had us go to the Fairhope Family Pharmacy and got a vial of medicine and returned to his office. He then injected 1/2 of the medication into my left side and told me to come back in 2 weeks if I was still in pain and he would give me the other 1/2. The medicine was sent Home with me to store. My pain never subsided at all and I never went back to Dr. Garvas after the way I was treated there and was still in over the top pain. My Daughter took me to a Surgeon that She knew in Mobile. Six months later after untold agony I had to have a revision surgery to correct the botched surgery that Dr. Gavras had performed. The second surgery revealed that my colon had attached to the back side of the mesh and had to be cut loose, the mesh was not laying flat and had to be trimmed off all aomg the upper edge, this was cutting in to me every time I tried to lean forward, and one of the pins used to secure the mesh had entrapped and damaged my ilioinguanal nerve. 3 years down the road and I am still dealing with major pain every day. I finally had to ask my primary care Doctor to refer me to a pain management Doctor so that I could get some relief from the constant pain. I now receive lumbar sympathetic blocks in my back and am on a constant dose of time released narcotic pain medication and I am still in pain most of the time. My pain management Doctor wants to implant an electrical stimulator and attach it to my spine to mask the constant pain that I am in. So far I have not consented to this but may in the future. I went to Dr. Garvas seeking his help and instead got a botched surgery and constant pain. What hurt me more than anything was the shoddy treatment that he gave me in front of my Beautiful Daughter and while I was in tremendous pain. Dr. Gavras is not only incompetent but is not a nice person as well. I hope that this review helps people that need help like me. Stay far away from this man is my advice.

This is the fourth surgery I have had with this doctor. Very nice bedside manner, but after Christmas scheduling was difficult this last time.

He did my bi-lateral mastectomy. Very good surgeon, I would definitely use him again if I needed surgery. He was very compassionate and thorough.
