Dr. Bowen joined Advanced Orthopedic Specialists in 2007. A native of Cape Girardeau, Dr. Bowen received his bachelor of science degree in zoology and chemistry from Southeast Missouri State University. From there, he went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Following that, Dr. Bowen finished his transitional internship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

In addition to his medical training, Dr. Bowen served as a Captain, Medical Waiver Advisor, and Specialty Leader in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation for the United States Navy. He also served as Chief of the Medical Staff for the United States Naval Academy.

When not seeing patients in clinic, Dr. Bowen serves as a team physician for Southeast Missouri State University. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, working out, golfing, and playing racquetball.

…Dr. Bowen is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He also holds a Certificate of Additional Qualification in Sports Medicine and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

I'd had something wrong with me for several years with varied symptoms that caused a lot of pain and a miserable life. I'd been sent to several doctors just to be told they didn't know and b e dismissed or sent to someone else. I'd even had several procedures done hoping that would fix the problem. Nothing did. Finally I was sent to Dr. Bowen and he knew what was wrong with me right away and even had a name for it! That was a relief in itself. Now that we know what is wrong with me, I'm working on getting better. I am so thankful that he took the time to listen and understand and has the knowledge and care he needs to help someone like me.

Dr. Bowen has helped me more than I can say. I had a Micro Discectomy surgery on my back and it was unsuccessful and I needed to have a Fusion. When my surgeon dropped me instead of admitting it and helping to fix it, he stepped up for me and found a surgeon that would fuse me even with all the problems. Dr. Bowen is a wonderful doctor that cares about your health and well being. He is willing to spend the time to explain anything that you may have questions about. I would recommend him to my own family and friends many times over. He has made sure that I am able to function and live comfortably while I was waiting for my surgery. Now he is helping me recover with dignity. If you are on this website looking at his rating then I can assure you he is a Doctor that you can trust to do the right thing for your health.

I have had 3 Spine Surgeons and have be living with Chronic pain for years and even traveled to Dallas Tx. & Warsaw Wi. to see specialists, and still had no relief from my pain. They wanted to do more surgeries on me. Finely I was referred to Dr. Bowen by a local Surgeon and after one visit he correctly diagnosed the root of my pain and over the next few office visits we have reduced my pain level 60% and he did this while reducing mt daily pain medicine intake. He gave me my life back. Wonderful guy.
