Dr. Joan Irene Downe Schwanz, MD

She is intelligent and forthcoming with information; however she does not treat each individual, but appears to put people into categories based on their medical issues. Her policy is rigid. She appears to be wasteful in that she ordered excessive labs for me, and agreed they weren't needed when I questioned the cost. She also requires quarterly visits If she prescribes a benzodiazepine. I understand this with a patient With a new dx, but not for someone who has been taking the same medication at a very low dosage for many years. Also, drug screens are required. This would be an extra cost to the patient. The quarterly visits would also result in extra cost, potently leading to higher insurance premiums, etc. Waste and abuse of the medical system is what has created many of the problems with our healthcare system. So, if you don't mind a big brother like wasteful mindset, she appears to be a competent dr.

Dr. Schwanz is brilliant and has the ability and knowledge of diagnosing an illness. She listens, explains and makes a plan of treatment. Always willing to work with you with a smile. Her staff is sufficient and friendly. Highly recommended!
