Dr. Law's "bedside manner" is the worst I've ever experienced. She has the personality of a rock, and made me even more nervous for my procedure. I wasn't there to be her new bestie, but she was just so rude. I would highly NOT recommend her. There are many other wonderful doctors in her department at Virginia Mason that will make you feel comfortable.

While in Washington on vacation in 2017 I became very ill and was transferred from a small community hospital to Virginia Mason in Seattle for an emergency procedure. I was assured by the emergency physician at the community hospital that I was getting the best doctor possible for my treatment. As a patient with a gastric bypass who had a complete blockage of the common biliary duct and pancreatitis, Dr Law was able to perform a very difficult and lengthy (4.5 hrs) ERCP to resolve my issues. Dr Joanna Law took the time before surgery to consult with my surgeon at home who then assured me that I was receiving amazing care. After surgery Dr Law talked with my family and also stayed over for a very long time until I was completely coherent (I am sensitive to anesthesia and wake slowly) to speak directly to me that evening in recovery. For my problem, Dr Law was to correct with endoscopy what would have been an open or laparoscopic surgery with a much longer recovery. I am very thankful… for her care and expertise.

This doctor violated Doctor - Patient Confidentiality. I have been sober for 3 years. Several months ago I had a moment of weakness and had 3 beers one evening. It was a mistake and I am not proud of it. I have not had any alcohol since. When at my appointment the Dr. asked if I drank alcohol. I replied that I was sober for 3 years. She asked me several more times throughout the visit, and I finally gave in and told her about the 3 beers I had several months ago. The Dr. then met with my wife deliberately separate, away from me during the visit and told her that I had drank alcohol. Obviously that didn't go over well and could potentially result in a little girl not having a daddy in the home. You may think to yourself...well, if this results in divorce then the relationship must already have had major issues... Dr. if you care enough to read the reviews from your clients, please understand that you don't know me, my family, or the consequences of YOUR actions. It is not your place to… do what you did and you violated confidentiality and trust.

This doctor provided the opposite of patient-centered care. An assistant, followed by a doctor in training spends forty minutes on intake and questions. Dr. Law appears for two minutes, decides you need an endoscopy (that's her expertise,) and leaves. Although medication is prescribed for you on your exit paperwork, it's never called in to the pharmacy, and when you call the practice, they say the doctor will call you but never does. Terrible. Finding out tests results are up to the patient.

Dr. Law is an amazing gastroenterologist who pinpointed my problem immediately. She took the time to explain everything to me and suggested treatment. She is courteous, friendly, spends time with you and does not make you feel rushed. She makes certain that all questions are answered. I am so happy that I found Dr. Law!
