Dr. Joel Lawrence Appel, DO

Went thru four rounds of chemotherapy but apparently my cancer wasn’t important enough for him to meet me just once.

Dr. Appel is very knowledgable, and when I first saw him I was very impressed, but after my initial diagnosis, I was less impressed. He's not a great listener. He can be extremely dismissive about symptoms and concerns. I really didn't appreciate it when he rolled his eyes and smirked at the med student when I was explaining my symptoms at one of my appointments. At other appointments he's acted more concerned, so I never know what I'm going to get. I guess the best way to describe his style is, " Ok. This person has this disease, I've seen it a hundred times before, this is what I've always done, I'm going to tune out of the rest of what they're saying." He's a great doctor, but I'm finding myself looking into working with a different oncologist. So....I'm obviously not super confident in the total relationship.
