My spouse and I went in very optimistic despite reading so much conflicting information online about the value of marriage counseling and the potential for it to make things worse. Our sessions with Dr. Fried showed us first hand how much going to the wrong counselor can make things go from bad to worse. Without going into too much detail, We felt he played us against each other which resulted in us going from being pleasant and amicable about our pending separation to an extremely toxic, distressing place. We both feel he was very disingenuous and only offered vague double talk without any semblance of insightful advice. He seemed to pick the low hanging fruit, stating what we already knew while deflecting any complex questions or concerns we had. We also felt that he was intentionally deceptive by PURPOSELY withholding information to make us feel obligated to continue seeing him after we expressed our doubts. Our sessions with Dr. Fried left deep emotional scars and animosity… that aren't likely to heal.
