Dr. Joel Martin Moskowitz, MD

Dr. Moskowitz has been my gynecologist for over 20 years. He delivered my son and has always been a great doctor. I would definitely recommend him.

I came to this doctor after seeing 2 others. Thirty years ago today, I called Dr. M. and told him how I felt. He said to meet him at the hospital. Dr. M. performed an emergency C-section at NYU Medical center a couple of hours after the Challenger blew up. My son was 6 weeks premature and spent 6 weeks in the NICU at NYU. He has had no severe health problems and is 30 years old today. Thank you Dr. M.

I've seen Dr. Moskowitz and his partner Dr. Gardner through out my pregnancy. I strongly believe he is incompetent. He can't do sonograms properly (has problems finding parts of the baby and even more worrisome measures the weight of the baby extremely wrong), has shaky hands (and he does surgeries), conducts unnecessary tests to bill the insurance company (stress tests when I had a healthy pregnancy), and is extremely rude. During sonograms, he had issues finding and correctly measuring different parts of the baby (he even asked me if I can look for the baby's legs on the screen!) although I was 8 and 9 months pregnant and a sonogram technician had no issue with doing that. He measured the baby on two occasions as being in a dangerously low weight percentile (less than 10%) and told me I might be suffering from blood cloths and might be in need of an early term C-section, when two weeks before the baby had been in a normal weight percentile. When I got a second opinion on that, I… was told there were no issues and that Dr. Moskowitz had measured the baby wrong by a lot! When I went into labor, he was upset that he had to shut down his office and come to the hospital, showed up late and in a bad mood, was making inappropriate jokes while he was operating on me, and yelled at the hospital staff and my mother for moving the baby to a different room when he came to do the circumcision. My biggest regret is not having dropped him as a doctor before I gave birth.

When I found out I was pregnant (my first pregnancy), I knew that I wanted to switch my OBGYN (mine was perfectly fine for gyn, but not necessarily for ob). I did a ton of research and also tapped into all of my friends, colleagues, and family members for recommendations. There were a couple great doctors that we saw (Ira Jaffe, being one of them), but my husband and I settled on Dr. Moskowitz for a few reasons. Near the top of our priority list was the general visit experience--since we were anticipating a ton of appointments to go over the course of the pregnancy, we felt it was important to find an office that was pleasant and well managed. It was clear from the minute that we walked in that the office was a great one. Our wait never exceeded 30 minutes (and typically was closer to 15 mins) and we were able to make appointments after work hours. The staff who deal with insurance were on top of their game and explained how my coverage for prenatal care would work. Also, they are so… personable and caring! I was traveling abroad and was concerned about something related to the pregnancy; I called the doctor's office and they were so prompt and eager to help. As for the doctor, himself: my husband and I liked him immediately (of the doctors we saw, this was a first). He was very hands-on (he performs the u/s) and spoke about the pregnancy with great clarity, neither sugar coating things nor causing alarm. His bedside matter is what we wanted. He is not warm and fuzzy, but in our opinion, those are not the characteristics you seek in a doctor. Besides, his nurses/assistants were super sweet and empathetic. So to recap: 1. knowledgable and strong doctor, check 2. pleasant and competent staff, check 3. easy and organized office, check If you are pregnant and looking for a doctor, I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Moskowtiz.

Office experience was good. But a different doctor did the delivery because it happened on a weekend. I was told in advance that Dr. Moscowitz does not deliver on weekends. So I knew it and that's ok. Answering service put me in touch with the substitute doctor on Saturday at 1 am. However, after the delivery, neither the doctor who delivered, nor ANYONE from the Moscowitz's office even called me. The following Monday was supposed to be my regular appointment and no one even bothered to check on me. It has been a week now and not a word. Besides being completely unprofessional, it is unbelievable that it is even possible. What bedside manner? This doctor got none.

This is the worst experience I have EVER had. I will NEVER recommend this doctor. Does not spend time with patient, does not listen to concerns. The exam was so rough and he prescribed two medications which did not work, does not listen to patient concerns.
