Dr. John Jahu Barnes JR., MD

PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING HERE. I don't usually leave reviews, but Dr.Barnes was SO AWFUL I truly need to make sure no one goes here. I am posting on behalf of someone who is afraid of retaliation from the office. I came in with a recommendation from a GI to get an ultrasound after I got a colonoscopy. When I went in to tell him this, he dismissed my concerns, saying that "this is just a woman's problem" which, by the way, I remind you that this was a gynecologist. When I asked for an ultrasound, he claimed that since he didn't see any reason to do it and so he wouldn't bill my insurance. This is despite the fact that I came in on a recommendation from another doctor. I insisted it be done, even without my insurance paying for it, because I have been having so much pain. After doing it, he DID actually find that there was an issue, and had no clue what to do. So not only is this doctor a jerk, he is also incompetent. He literally said "I don't know who I could recommend you to for this.… I could recommend you to a gynecologist but that's me." So basically, he doesn't know how to do his job. Afterwards, I asked, so then can you bill my insurance now because clearly there was a reason to do it and there's something wrong with my body. He told me "No, I already sent the bill, I will not bill your insurance." Despite being wrong, he still wasn't willing to account for his mistakes and demanded I pay him out of pocket. So now I'm paying for this incompetent doctor out of pocket when really I shouldn't be. By the way, when I called initially, I asked to see a female gynecologist. The office couldn't even do that for me (do they even have a female gynecologist? and if they don't why didn't they tell me?), and now I'm frustrated that I saw Dr.Barnes who DISMISSED my concerns, was completely INCOMPETENT, and is OVERCHARGING me because he was too lazy to bill my insurance. DO NOT GO HERE.

I met with Dr. Barnes for a consultation to consider him as my provider for my second pregnancy. I assumed the 15 minute consultation would be free of charge (considering I used so little of his in-office time, I did not use any of the nurses' time - no weight, blood pressure, urine, nothing; & because I was not told there would be a charge for such a visit when I made the appointment). I received a bill for $100 for the 15 minutes I was in his office - which equates to a billing rate of $400 per hour. After my insurance "adjusted" the amount, I was still forced to pay $68.81 for 15 minutes of his time - an hourly rate of $275.24 (or my "account" would be sent to collections - I spoke to his billing office several times over a few months). ZipRecruiter shows the national average pay for an OBGYN in 2019 at $114 per hour, with the HIGHEST paid OBGYNs in the country still making only $164 per hour. Dr. Barnes charged me 1.6 times the highest rates charged in the country to speak to him… for 15 minutes.

Dr Barnes is a great Doctor. He was very pleasant to work with during our pregnancy and he allowed us to understand everything regarding our pregnancy. His best quality as an MD - he doesnt "sugar coat". I believe that is a way of respecting his patient's intelligence and allowing them to make sound judgments. He is a great MD - do not expect him to do customer service - he is not a Call center - he is a Medical Doctor who treats patients.

God complex, bully, makes you feel that you've wasted his precious time. I'm in the medical field and could not believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. He was the on-call doc and heaven help the poor patients that were treated to his incompentence, rudeness and overall creepiness.

I've been a patient of Dr. Barnes for 15 years, and he is phenomenal! He dealt with me before my children, and delivered both of my babies. He's an honest, Christian man who loves his job and loves babies. His staff is extremely helpful and goes out of their way to do anything you need. I never have a problem with telephone questions or waiting to get an appointment. He is part of a large practice, so sometimes your wait is a little prolonged in the office, but it is so worth it.

I have been seen by Dr. Barnes for over 10 years and I must say that he is an excellent doctor. He is caring and has patience with me even though I do not like going to see doctors. His demeanor and reputation are both wonderful.
