Dr. John Clements Betancourt, MD

Great physician

I have seen several different doctors in my 72 years and they have been good doctors and I have liked all of them. Each of them retired during the time I was seeing them and that always made me sad because that meant I had to go "doctor shopping" again. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Betancourt because he had just opened his own practice in Valdese. I knew my friend would not steer me wrong so I made an appointment with him. I have to say that out of all the doctors I have seen in my life he is the most professional, caring, kind, concerned and intelligent doctor I have ever met. When you meet him he wants to know all about you, your health and any problems you might have, your family, and anything else that you feel you need to express to him. He is in no hurry, you do not feel like you are on a production line and he makes you feel as if you are his only patient. Yes, there is sometimes a wait, but it is not because he is taking a break drinking coffee and eating snacks. It is… because he is treating each and every patient with the care and concern that a doctor should. There will never be another like him to me and to many other people. It is truly a shame that he had to leave his practice because of having to go under the umbrella of Blue Ridge Healthcare who demanded that he see a certain number of patients per day in order to "meet their demands" and that he spend approximately 8 minutes with each patient. This man would never do that and he would never do that to his patients. He is truly one of a kind and the type of doctor that everyone should have. It is truly a shame that this area had to lose a man who is so intelligent, caring and kind. I am so sorry that he is no longer my doctor but I am not sorry that he left Blue Ridge Healthcare because I consider them and their so called "healthcare" to be despicable. As of yet I have not found another doctor but I know that I must. I wish for Dr. Betancourt and his family all the best and hope that someday he can open a practice again and do what he loves most and that is seeing and treating patients.

Dr. Betancourt takes his time with each patient. You are not a file number. You are truly a person. He listens to your concerns. He allows you to finish talking instead of interrupting. He is a wonderful physician. You may have to wait, but the care is exceptional. The wait is worth feeling better.

I knew this man had to be an good doctor, it took me 2 years to get to be his patient. First thing you might experience is a long wait time (not much more than any Dr.) but once he comes in the room with you, you find out why. He is there for you as long as you need him. He will talk to you about why you came to see him & then ask if there is anything else he can help you with. He will spend as much time as he needs to in order to discuss your problem, the cause and treatment to make sure when you leave you don't have any questions. How many times have you gone to the doctor & felt like you were on an assembly line, then left scratching your head and when asked, What did he say? You weren't able to give a clear answer. Well that won't happen with this Doctor. He is the best. My whole family goes to him, and also, my wife & i have 2 Mentally Challenged individuals that live in our home (like foster care). We didn't stop until we had both of them as his patients,(he worked a few yrs. @… the J Iverson Riddle Center for the Mentally Challenged) He is so incredibly knowledgeable about numerous mental & psychological issues and medications. He also is very patient and caring to the special needs of such individuals. You will not find a better Doctor. For me personally, he diagnosed a tumor that I had had for 2 years. Three other doctors just disregarded the painful swollen lump in my neck as a minor inner ear issue or just an inflamed lymph node. On my very first visit, during a routine physical, he found the lump, asked me how long I had had it and without hesitation diagnosed it as a Parotid Gland Tumor. Obviously concerned about it he immediately referred me to a specialist, 1 week and a 5 hour surgery later, it was removed. Luckily for me the results came back benign. The specialist advised me that if we had waited any longer it would have turned cancerous. He saved me from the pain and agony of radiation & chemo treatments and possibly even saving my Life. This man usually takes off 1 day a week from his office... Does he play golf? No, he will make house calls to the elderly shut-ins that can not come to him. Like I described in the title, He is exactly what a Doctor is supposed to be.

I have never found a doctor locally as professional as John he truly cares about his patients health! So many doctors here locally want to rush you out of the office but John never has and this is how all doctors should be! Many local healthcare providers need to see how happy Johns patients are and learn from his practice!

I have been going there for 5 years now and I absolutely love him he takes his time and makes you feel comfortable he is truly a great doctor

He is a wonderful doctor he'll make sure that you are cared for and he takes his time to talk to you about your sickness he is a truly incredible doctor and I think he is the best there can be

Wait time is long because he's making sure his paitents are fine from head to toe rest assured he's going to spend as much time on you as he did his last paitent steep discounts for the uninsured
