Dr. John Michael Ciccarelli, MD

Dr. Cicarelli did my lower back surgery 10 years ago. He explained things so I could understand, had excellent bedside manner, and relieved my back pain. I can do everything I want to do. I do need to lift with proper form and take it easy sometimes so I don’t reinjure my back, but my surgery was a success and I have a lot of confidence in Dr. Cicarelli.

I had been experiencing increasingly more intense pain in my lower back and leg for over a year and a half when I came to Overland Park. I had reached a level of frustration with my Louisiana doctors that left me determined to never see another doctor again. Ever! But my daughter intervened and begged me to give it one more shot with the doctors in Kansas. That’s how I discovered Dr. John Cicarrelli, and he was worth every one of the 757 miles I had traveled. After hours of researching doctors in the area, I chose Dr. Ciccarelli and submitted my MRI’s to his office for review. A few days later, I received a call telling me that the doctor believed he could help. A couple of weeks later, he performed my back surgery. My back pain is much better and we are hopeful that my leg will follow suit. Dr. C and his physician’s assistant are always available to remind me where I am in the healing process and what to expect at each juncture when I get impatient. The difference between Dr.… Ciccarelli and my previous doctors was night and day. Instead of feeling like a heifer in a cattle call, with Dr. C, I was treated with respect. Instead of passing me off to a pain management doctor, he told me what he could do to actually FIX the problem rather than put bandaids on the symptoms. Instead of assuming that I was there solely for pain medications, he listened and understood that I wanted a permanent fix so that I WOULDN’T have to take them. Rather than telling me what he decided the plan would be, Dr. C. gave me options and let make decisions the whole way through. He understood that after a year and a half, it wouldn’t be helpful to start again at square 1. He promptly scheduled the surgery. When issues arose at the hospital regarding my medication, Dr. C. stood up for me to the staff to make sure it was addressed. I have NEVER had a physician that felt like an advocate for me . . . until now. He clearly skipped the med school class that teaches “God Complex 101” and is a fine example of the compassion that doctors everywhere should be emulating. Oh yeah … and his staff is amazing too!

Recently had back surgery and could not of ask for a better doctor. The care i received before during and after was amazing.Strongly recommend him and Jason Douglas for back care.

Thanks to Dr. Ciccarelli I went in with pain and now pain free. He is very Professional, Caring and Very Good at what he does. His Assistant Jason and the Whole Office staff are also Very Good at what they do. I would Recommend them to anyone. Thanks again Dr. Ciccarelli and your Staff

Dr. Ciccarelli and his entire staff did a great job in preparing me for what to expect from the procedure to repair a herniated disc and the recovery period to follow. This was greatly appreciated as any work on your spine can be a frightening ordeal. Dr. C. did not underplay the risks or the long-term prospects of re-injury, but also laid out clearly out how surgery could help and what steps I could take to get the most out of the procedure. Great work by the entire team.

Dr. Cicc's bedside manner and explanation of my injury and treatment options was the best experience medically that I have ever had. He is professional, empathetic and confident in his abilities, which put my fears to rest.

Dr. C operated on me about 11 years ago. He was the FIRST medical professional I really felt like that cared more about my injury than saving work comp money. He was a godsend during a very stressful time.

Dr. Ciccarelli and his PA Jason Douglas gave me my life back. Before my spinal fusion I couldn't walk a block now I walk 1 1/2 miles in 30 minutes and am doing my old job. (Industrial Electrician) Other Drs. told me nothing could be done and had me on so many different drugs that I couldn't function. Since my surgery I now take nothing for pain. Dr. C and his entire staff are very caring and respectful and never try to push you into surgery. They are very focused on infection prevention and your well being. They always call you back if you have a concern or question. Words cannot express how much I appreciate and respect them.

Dr. Ciccarelli, Jason, Heather, and Laura were BEYOND wonderful!!! They went above and beyond to get my husband diagnosed, temporarily treated, and scheduled for surgery all on the same day as his first appointment. Their pre-surgical packet is the best, most descriptive and informative information I have ever seen from a surgeon's office. Their customer service is far above par!

Dr Ciccarelli and his staff provided excellent medical care prior to my surgery, during the surgery and the followup after surgery. Jason has been great, the office staff very competent and courteous. I am very satisfied with the outcome of my surgery.
