Dr. John Alan Coats, MD

This man is amazing! I’ve had 2 Surgeries with my spine & I ONLY trust this doctor to perform my surgeries. Had a herniated disk cleaned up & timer removed from my spinal cord. This man saved my life. Best bedside manner & extremely attentive to his Patients. If I could give more stars I would! Thank you Dr. Coats for saving my life.

The staff from hell. Why is the doctor so nice and his staff so nasty? Maybe he's too nice and that's why his staff gets away with treating patients like garbage.

Doctor seems nice, but after a first visit, I realized that working with his office would be a nightmare. They were cold to me when I initially checked in, and they are awful on the phone. I knew I would need surgery and I knew that working with his office staff would make a stressful situation worse.

Title says it all. Shameful practice.

No patient should ever be treated rudely, put on hold without anyone picking up again, and so much more. Despite Dr. Coats' and Dr. Moore's great reputations, they need to be made aware of how their staff makes patients feel--on the phone and in person. Andrea is the worst.

I had herniated my L - 4 disk to the point of needing surgery. Dr. Coats performed laser surgery on me 4/30/2000. Seventeen years later I'm still amazed at how my back has held up. Not one problem since surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Coats into My Family and Friends.

Dr. Coats exceeded my expectations. He is very professional and knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable with his diagnosis and with his opinion to proceed with surgery. He did an excellent job on my back surgery. His bedside manners were great. He saw me everyday I was in the hospital and even stepped in and took over when the nurses didn't have my pain regulated. I have nothing but the highest regard for Dr. Coats and would certainly recommend him.

Dr Coats was highly recommended to me and while it took me three months to get in with him...he was worth the wait. He performed a difficult, almost 14 hr surgery on my spine and my results are fantastic! I healed perfectly..and its now 10 mo since surgery & I feel great! Dr Coats gave me my life back...I thank God for him and I highly recommend him as a surgeon...he is worth it...no matter how long you have to wait!

I had spinal fusion on C4-C5, C5-C6. As a surgeon he was good. 3 years later I am having problems again, by no fault of his. His bedside manner was extremely poor. Felt like I was wasting his time. After surgery when I had to ask him about follow ups and physical therapy he just shrugged his shoulders and said "well..if ya want to". His office staff is the WORST!! I have never experienced such a rude group of people. They slammed that little glass window like that is their power to get you out of their way. They could never find my appointment, MRI ' or family leave paperwork and somehow it was always my fault. My biggest gripe is with his office staff. THE WORST!

Being told that you have a brain tumor and require surgery is terrifying in itself. Having an experienced & seasoned professional like Dr. Coats by your bedside is priceless. I had the luck of having him first to see me when I landed in an emergency room, and after checking all over the country, all referrals for a surgeon led back to him. I could go on for hours, but suffice it to say that I felt truly blessed that I had the "Best Brain in Brains" working on mine. The surgery, while not a cakewalk, I am sure, was enormously successful, and from start to finish I had less trepidation about the procedure than I did over a mammogram! His calm and decisive demeanor is certainly why I was comfortable, and why I came through the surgery & subsequent recovery with flying colors. His follow up and time taken to answer all my questions 7 concerns must be unparalleled in his field, and while I hope to NEVER have to refer a brain surgeon to anyone else, if I ever do, there will be just… one name on my tongue ... enthusiastically .. Dr. John Coats! His office staff is in the midst of computer system conversion which I am sure has an impact in efficiency, however, if you have the luck of dealing with Anni or Debbie there, then you are lucky enough!
