Dr. John Patrick Collins, DO

Dr. Collins is a very skilled and compassionate doctor. He always takes time with his patients and has outstanding staff working with him! A 5 star practice indeed!

I once thought Dr. Collins was a good doctor. I would have recommended him without question but I’m not sure anymore. There is more than medical knowledge as a measure of a good doctor. There is patient interaction. He can be abrupt, almost rude and will ignore what you have to say if he’s not interested in your health issue. He makes it clear by walking out of the room before you are even done going over your issues. I thought this was a one off interaction but then I read someone else’s review here having the same interaction. We cannot be the only ones. I guess I will be looking for another spine doctor. I am sorry to see that Dr. Collins has behaved this way with more than one patient. It is unacceptable and will lead to loss of patients if he keeps up this rude and almost pompous behavior.

If I could rate my experience with Dr Collins as a zero, I would. Friendly office staff and nice facilities absolutely do not make up for the incompetence of this physician. I was referred to Dr Collins from my primary care team because of a chronic issue with my foot, ankle, and calf. I came prepared with test results and a detailed chronology of my injury. After talking to me for five minutes, he did an exam and determined that I had no physical ailment. This man did not listen to me, look at my test results, or read my X-ray/MRI film. Instead, he diagnosed me with a rare neurological pain condition. Odd, considering that he’s not a neurologist. He also said the issue would resolve on its own or I would learn to live with it. I’m young. Too young for chronic pain for the rest of my life. Fast forward a few months. The pain became worse, so I went back to my primary care physician and got a referral to a different doctor. In one office visit and one X-ray, the second doctor… found an actual, structural issue with my foot that caused the pain in my ankle. The issue required surgery and left untreated would have led, eventually, to a complete collapse of the arch in my foot. All of that is a far cry from the neurological pain condition Dr Collins diagnosed me with. I am so thankful that I found a DIFFERENT doctor who listened and treated my problem. Learn from my mistake: if you suffer chronic pain, go elsewhere. **Note: I have never rated a physician on Google or any other review platform before. I made an exception for Dr Collins because my experience was that bad and I would hate for another person to live in pain because he made them think there’s nothing actually wrong with them or that they are destined to a life of chronic pain.

Dr. Collins made a cortisone injection for my hip problem seem like an almost no fail proposition. Before the injection I could hike, bike, climb mountains, do yoga or anything else I would have liked to do. It just hurt a little. Immediately after the injection my real problems began. Since then several doctors have questioned Dr. Collins choice of injection site. Since then I am in severe pain almost constantly, my mild hip inflammation has turned into a severe hip inflammation, it seems a nerf has been damaged in the process and Dr. Collins has been of no help trying to help me figure out what might have gone wrong during his procedure. He is probably more concerned about some legal implications, if he admitted to a mistake, than helping me figure out how to take care of this now. even though I assured him that this was not my intention. It has been 6 months since this simple and miraculous cortisone injection and my condition is not improving. He is generously prescribing heavy… pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs and advising me to see another doctor. I no longer enjoy hiking, biking or mountain climbing, of course. I do manage a walk to the neighborhood grocery store so long as someone else carries the bag for me.

This doctor is of little help. Loves to ask a lot of "why" questions but can or shall I say will never answer yours. Waste of time. Also loves to insinuate or think he can piece together stuff that really has nothing to do with him being a doctor. He may be okay if he could focus on that.

Secretary was very rude on phone. They don't return phone calls or respond to voicemail messages. Secretary then gave a patient my personal medical files and then offered me his home address so I can pick up my documents FROM HIS HOUSE. Dr. Collins then told me that's it's not a big deal as 'this sort of thing happens sometimes' and I should not worry since there wasn't too much personal information on the documents. During the visit, Dr. Collins was bad mouthing the doctors at the ER who had seen me. They ended up being much more helpful than he was. Dr. Collins refused to order me an MRI when one was clearly needed. Their office smells bad and looks like it hasn't been update in 30 years. I would not recommend this office to anyone, and I will continue to bad mouth this office to everyone in the DMV. Disgusting placeand disgusting staff.
