Dr. John B Dame, MD

I was disappointed that on what I thought would be a physical exam of my overall health that there was very little done beyond taking my blood pressure. I have a rare and serious disease and as I was trying to explain it to him he said my description of it was "dramatic". This is a condition that close to 100 percent of doctors don't know ANYTHING about aside from maybe recognizing the name of it from some years-ago mention of it in medical school. Because of this, I have been studying it, reading medical journal studies and articles, etc., for the last 34 years and the effects of this incurable disease ARE dramatic. I'm the one to have to educate my doctors because they're so utterly unfamiliar with this disease and how devastating it is. I felt put down and disrespected. Dr. Dame also failed to inform me that I could possibly get injections he charged me nearly $200.00 for at my pharmacy for a fraction of the cost or totally covered by my insurance. I know doctors can't know… everyone's insurance plans and I don't expect that, but in my opinion, failing to mention the alternative possibilities that could result in significant financial advantages is not looking out for the best interests of the patient. I'm once again looking for a primary care doctor who will provide me with the care I expect, who won't be condescending, has great communication skills, is technically excellent, and will let me know about alternatives that could save me significant amounts of money. I've had an extremely difficult time over many years finding a primary care doctor with whom I feel comfortable and cared for. I don't put up with what I feel is not a good fit for my care in ANY aspect of my medical needs. I learned the hard way many years ago not to tolerate care that doesn't work for me or to "settle". We pay amazing amounts of money for healthcare and I want and need the best care I can find. It doesn't pay, especially over the long run, to settle for care with which I'm not completely satisfied. Dr. Dame may be a practitioner who does a great job for others. He's just not a good fit for me and my needs at this time.

He has knowledge to help and spends time asking about the problems.
