Dr. John Patrick Donohue JR., MD

Dr. Donohue is such a gem. He was able to fit me in his schedule when I was experiencing severe pain in my knee and shoulders. I am forever grateful for him. I’m now able to walk around without looking like the tin man. He’s so kind, gentle, and compassionate. I’m beyond happy that I have him as my Rheumatologist.

Although I was a patient of Dr. Donahue's, once I was unhappy I was removed so that I could not post a review as you cannot post a review unless you were a patient. I have a feeling that they drop a lot of patients that way so their reviews stay high. Don't read the Cleveland clinic reviews as they are biased. A horrible man in my opinion. I live on the other coast and was being treated by a wonderful surgeon, Dr Eric Weiss, at Cleveland Clinic in Weston's gastroenterology department. My internist was concerned that I may be having issues requiring a rheumatologist and since I was having such great treatment from Dr Weiss and his department, referred me to Dr. Donahue as we have a shortage of rheumatologist in this area. I made an appointment with Dr. Donahue and drove from the other coast and when I got there I met with someone else. I went over my medical history and background and left without seeing Dr. Donahue. She ordered a test which I did immediately upon returning to the… other coast. Dr Weiss was performing surgery the following week so I hand-delivered the films and report from the test. I never heard anything from them so I followed up and there seem to be some confusion on the tests so after much effort on my part they found the tests. Only telling me they found the test I suggested that it might be a good idea for me to have a follow up appointment and I wanted to see the doctor. Since it is a long drive for me to make by myself, I brought a friend with me to the follow up appointment. My appointment with Dr. Donahue did not go so well. He acted annoyed that I had bothered him and bluntly asked me, "why are you here?" Taken aback I stuttered that my internist felt that I needed to see a rheumatologist. He said that there was nothing wrong with me and that I did not have rheumatoid arthritis. I then had to make two trips back over there to try to get my copies of found back Fast forward a couple of years and I had a surgeon here do a knee replacement and he was very suspicious of tissue so he sent it out for a biopsy. Guess what I have rheumatoid arthritis and if I had known this a couple of years ago I might've been able to get treatment instead of the pain. The best advice I can give is to run away

I traveled from the West Coast of Florida to the East Coast to see what I had hoped would be an excellent visit and to establish with a new rheumatologist. I was diagnosed several years ago by an EXCELLENT rheumatologist here but he went to a concierge practice. Dr. Donohue seemed to think that every doctor I have seen in the past was not knowledgeable and just didn’t know as much as he did! I am from the Nashville area and saw doctors for years at Vanderbilt Medical Center which is a superb facility with excellent doctors. He says I do not have what I had been diagnosed with by several different doctors. He is strictly a “check the box” doctor. He does not think out of the box. With any autoimmune condition, it is very hard to diagnose and with Dr. Donohue, if you don’t have all the positive tests then you just don’t have a problem! I will NOT be returning to see him. He is very arrogant as he thinks he is the only doctor out there that has smarts! He made me feel like I was crazy! My… husband is a physician and he went with me and he also was NOT impressed. I would not recommend at all.

Dr. Donohue is a gift! He is a life saver for me. He is concerned for his patients and very knowledgeable in the field of auto-immune diseases. I’ve known him for several years and he has demonstrated his passion in his profession by the way he listens to me and my concerns. I highly recommend him. He is an asset to Cleveland Clinic.

just now If I could give zero stars it would be a more appropriate score. I had high hopes for a rheumatologist at the Cleveland Clinic and traveled a long distance to come see him for a second opinion. When I met with him for my appointment he seemed to already have made up his mind about me and my diagnosis. He stated that it was impossible for me to have a disease that albeit is rare at my age. Worse, this impossibility he attributed to his lack of personal experience- since he hasn't seen it in 30 years it must not exist! It was clear he was not looking through an objective or scientific lens. He did not even spend one moment examining me. He sat in a chair across the exam room and lectured me. He treated me like I had the audacity to ask him to do his job. Whatever questions I had that couldn't be dismissed were ignored. His bedside manner is atrocious. I'm not really sure who he is giving good care to or the people out there that are giving him great or even good… reviews. I can imagine this man can only treat uncomplicated and straightforward cases since he has no insight, imagination, scientific perspective or critical thinking skills- not to mention a complete lack of personality. I'm pretty sure his ego is wrapped up more in the status symbol of playing pretend doctor rather than actually being one. I urge you to go elsewhere, you will be disappointed as I surely was.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A DIAGNOSE FOR 5 WEEKS AND EVERY DAY I CALL THEY SAY HE WILL CALL BACK OR THE NURSE AND NOTHING HAPPENS I'M TAKING MEDECINE THAT'S NOT DOING ME ANY GOOD BUT CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE IS THE DOCTOR HE HAS TO CHANGE IT.

I want to start by saying how I have always heard of the excellent reputation of the Cleveland Clinic and its staff. However, I was extremely shocked when one week ago, I made an appointment with Dr. Donohue just to find out (less than thirty minutes later) by his staff that he refused to see me based on my fibromyalgia condition. My condition? Well this is weird to say the least. He has never seen me, so how does he know my "condition"? I do not even know myself. This is unethical, unprofessional, inconsiderate, not to mention disheartening. What a horrible way to dismiss a patient. I was speechless.

Dr. Donohue is the very BEST Dr. that I have ever been to. He is kind, extremeley knowledgeble and very easy to talk to. He always explains to you in detail - whatever is going on. I would highly recommend Dr Donohue to my family & friends.

I have been going to Dr. Donohue for over 8 years and he is always attentive and caring. He takes his time to explain issues and always has that one on one approach. His nurse Gloria is exceptional and treats you with kindness and respect.
