Dr. John Kent Ellington, MD

Had surgery, ended up with issue more painful than original concern. Little to no care showed and no assistance in whom to seek for help. Doesn't seem interested in hearing about things that may not have gone well.

I waited more than 30 minutes in the room nobody informed me about late. I heard sound outside the doctor visit room then I opened the door. I saw him chatting with other hospital worker. After he saw him he entered the room. He did not apologize for being late and didn’t introduce himself and he was holding his cell phone. While I was explaining my foot problem he was not listening me and he was typing through his phone. I felt like humiliated. He did not inform me and the visit just took 2 minutes. He gave a paper about MRI and he left the room. I am totally disappointed and unhappy. I have never behaved like that before by any doctor.

Dr. Ellington treated me for a completely torn right Achilles. Subsequent to the surgery, I contracted a nosocomial infection. That can happen with any surgery I don't blame him for that. I do fault his follow care after the infection. He performed 2 surgeries to correct it, both times succeeding in only covering a deep seated infection with a flap of skin enabling the infection to become more chronic. I ended up with 9 months of Infectious disease and wound care follow up to correct his mistakes. Besides repeatedly covering the infection he made errors that no surgeon in this specialty should ever make. First he prescribed Ciproflaxin to treat the nosocomial infection, despite Ciproflaxin having a black box warning of it's complicity in causing Achilles Tendon tears. I completely tore my left Achilles 9 months after that Rx. I blame him for that tear. Second after his third surgery he placed a WoundVac device over the incision. Rather than changing the dressing "at least"… every other day as recommended by the manufacturer he left original dressing in place 5 full days. Of course the wound reinfected. When I questioned this he blatantly lied to me and told me I had a "special" WoundVac that didn't need changing. The final straw was when he informed me that the culture performed after the 3rd surgery showed Klebsiella Oxytaca as the infectious agent. His exact words were. "I've never heard of it before." After leaving his office I researched the organism to find it had a propensity for broad spectrum antibiotic resistance, and that it presented the possibility of infecting my artificial knee joint above the affected ankle. I contacted his office and was finally referred to both an ID specialist and a Wound specialist. 180 days of antibiotics, and 210 days of wound care later the wound healed. Two months after that I completely tore the other Achilles. I blame the Cipro Dr. Ellington prescribed for that tear. Needless to say he did not perform that surgery.

Didn't help my foot problem @ all ! Wouldn't recommend him !

This doctor was based on a referral to me for a second opinion. He declined and no reasons were given. In response to my questions, before having surgery, the nurses and schedulers stated getting a second opinion would not be a bad idea info had concerns. His team did not even contact me to give me the news. When physicians can help calm the fears of a patient, answers all questions m, and not feel the need to neglect, only then will doctors receive the proper respect and less negative feedback. Do not use this doctor! Always research and have wind and third opinionsb before surgery. I'm researching another practice. Ortho Carolina does not make me feel comfortable.

Dr Ellington is best in the state. Highly recommend for severe trauma.

Dr. Ellington is friendly, personable, and really smart. He took over my care after a surgery out of state and I could not be happier with my experience. Although he did not perform my surgery I would not hesitate to refer him to anyone for orthopedic care of any kind.

Dr. Ellington was pleasant, personable, and thorough! Glad I chose him as my doctor to care for my broken tibia and fibula.

I felt as if I were ran through a mill. Very pompous and supercilious man. Did not spend adequate time discussing my diagnosis or possible treatments. I was referred for orthotics and the orthotist said that I was passed on with no regard.

Dr. Ellington is one of few that is concerned for the patient and not just in it for the money. He treats everyone alike and spends time and discusses your problem in detail with you.
