Dr. John P. Getsos, MD

The top of the unprofessionalism and dishonesty. Few months ago I was just arriving from Europe with no real clue of the medical system here and I just wanted to have a routine check and went to Dr Getsos. After few minutes, despite me saying I dont need additional test, the Doctor almost forced me to take some blood/urine tests which I did not wanted or needed (results proved it..), arguing it will not cost me a penny just the insurance.. it proves also the mentality of overcharging the insurance… So at the end I did the test and received a 330 dollars bill to pay. Since then I have challenged, called, emailed etc.. and just received very rude answers from his PA like “did you really believed something was free in NY” or hanging off on me when I was insisting to get explanation. The doctor (if we can call him that…) has never called back or answered my email. I am sure he is pushing the same scam to every patients (I can even say clients in that case) Crooks there is no other word.… Avoid the place at all cost

Dr. Getsos is a caring, compassionate doctor who actually listens to us and responds. Unfortunately, it seems he and his partners cannot afford to have their own independent practice with their own staff. The receptionists, who are NYU employees, are the rudest, nastiest, most incompetent and idiotic I have ever encountered, and we have been to DOZENS of doctors. They have actually hung up on us at times. I'm guessing they have some kind of protection from being fired. I've heard them complain about patients in their presence. It's very difficult to get an accurate message to the doctor on time. Sad.

Dr. Getsos is awesome. A full physical take 2-3hours and they do everything on the premises. I enjoy his recommendation for special needs. The nurses are very nice but the reception staff need to be more pleasant . It doesn't stop me from coming to see Dr. Getsos. His follow up is awesome

This is ONE amazing doctor... I had searched to find a doctor for my mother a number of years ago, found Dr. Getsos, and told her just try and see if you like him. Her last doctor was awful.. Well I cannot tell you how long she has been seeing him now, but he is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is caring, hard working, considerate, he goes above and beyond the normal doctor. He has spoken to me many times due to issues my mom had/ and has... he can be no better than he is~ If all doctor's were like him, wow, a lot of sick people would feel better just going to the office... He always calls me back should I need to speak with him, and has even walked my mom to another doctor around the corner from his office. He is truly one in a million.... If you are looking for that special kind of doctor; look NO further.. this is him!!!! Thank you for all your kindness and help.

John is the kindest most gracious, humble man I have ever met. He has been beside me through many critical visits, tests and hospital stays. My illness was a mystery for several years but he supported me and cared for me. He took the time to explain everything and always made feel better emotionally even if he couldn't fix me medically. Other doctors should take lessons from him on how to treat patients.

I've been going to Dr. Getsos for their thirteen years. He is an awesome doctor. He is personalble and thorough. His follow up is amazing. I love that many of the test (blood work, x-rays, etc.) are performed right there in the office. Dr Getsos care about his patients. He is always willing to give referral if needed. But I make sure all of my doctors are aware to please send any and all results to him. If you dont have a good primary care doctor, Dr. Getsos is the best of the best.

The hardest part of making an appointment is getting through to the office staff. Wait times can be long, but that's not unusual for most doctors in NYC.Dr Getsos himself is a great guy, and if you're very ill, he and his staff will make every effort to accommodate you. He does take the time to explain everything, and he's also very good about following up with a phone call re: lab results.

Dr. Getsos has been my primary physician for the last 5 years. He is really very smart and will spend as much time is needed to answer all of your questions, eventhough he may be going from patient to patient. Since he is a geriatric doctor as well as physician, the tests he performs for an annual physical go above and beyond any other Dr. I have used. I appreciate the thoroughness of his check ups.

A great Doc!!! But support staff has been sliding for years

OK - it's a busy office, with a huge, nice support staff, so the time Dr. Getsos spends with you may be brief (bring a list of your questions), but!!! The man is a superb diagnostician, a very high IQ guy, works round the clock, and is understanding beyond belief, a real humanitarian. He is our family doctor, and many of our friends have switched over to him, too. He is great with geriatric patients too, including our 99 year old, always tender, and he DOES return phone calls!!! And somehow, if something really funky comes up, they somehow manage to fit you in with one of his associates. We can't find enough good things to say about this doctor, and Lord knows, we'd been to several before finding him. Thank you, Dr. John Getsos!
