Very high mortality rate as per New York State. It's probably even higher considering that he massages his statistics by not reporting many post operative deaths as ' died from natural causes ' thus making those fatalities counts disappear.

I was diagnosed with an anyeurism of the aortic arch. I was referred to Dr. G and was monitored for a while until he thought it was time to do the surgery. This is a very competent and confident surgeon who put me at ease about the operation and I came through with flying colors. Dr. G has an excellent team of clinicians and they actually come to the hospital and work along with the hospital staff. I was out of the hospital in 4 days! This is a very busy office and you can wait a while on occasion. Some of the office staffers are not good at returning calls which can be frustrating. Overall, it was a good experience. Dr G. saved my life. I also wanted to mention that I became ill a month after the surgery with an unknown virus and Dr G had me re-admitted and treated for 4 days. Thankfully it did not affect my newly reconstructed aorta and now I am fine. This doctor does not mess around. He told me repeatedly that his main concern was the risk of infection after the surgery and he… does not take chances. -thanks once again. By the way- if you do have surgery- ask about cardiac rehabilitation. This office did not mention that Winthrop has this program. I found out from my regular cardilologist a while later.

I chose Dr Goncalves after seeing several specialist for my problem. I was diagnosed with a congenital anomaly of my aorta. He spent a considerable amount of time educating my family and I about my condition, the surgical options and expectations for my recovery. I felt very secure in his confidence and I placed my life in his hands. My surgery was lengthy and complex. Later that evening he was at my bedside when I awoke. Early the following morning he was there again. Each morning in fact and afternoon he came by - sometimes rather late, but every day. He directed every aspect of my care. His team was equally on too of every detail. The communication from Dr Goncalves and his office was nothing less than impressive. Each day my wife received a call after morning rounds to give an update. There were no surprises. Dr Goncalves saved My life. My children, my family and I am forever in his debt. I was deeply saddened by he posting from Jan 4th of this year. This is NOT representative of… Dr Goncalves or his practice and staff. I interacted with many of Dr Goncalves's patients while in the hospital. In fact, most of the patients were his. Every single one felt as I did. In addition, his partner Dr Schubach was equally impressive. He cared for me over the weekend. I fully recommend Dr Goncalves and his team

a very good young surgeon. was very confident in himself and did a good job for my situation. i understand he does a lot of more diffult surgeries. i would definitely recommend him.
