Dr. John Laird Hinson, MD

I had severe back pain one morning so much that I went to the ER in Athens. After pain relievers and high white count in my urine the suggested I see a urologist. I called my primary care and let her know that ER suggested that I see a urologist. We set up an appointment with Dr Hinson. While there, his nurse (who is EXCELLENT) put a catheter in (I am female, by the way) and they did a clean sample. After they found nothing, Dr Hinson came in to tell me that he is a "Specialist" and he said my kidneys were great. I had cyst but it was normal. That was great news. No big deal but I left that office feeling like I wasted his time after a small lecture about why I came to see a "specialist" for this. I'm not a doctor. I just do what the doctor tells me to do. Never again.

My experience with this dr was awful. He dismissed my symptoms and talked to me like I was stupid. He wasn't concerned or caring in the least with a poor bedside manner. He uses no anesthetics for procedures and apparently thinks that everyone has the same pain tolerance level to procedures. EVERY patient is different and EVERY case is not the same no matter how long you have practiced medicine. Needless to say I left in tears and I would not recommend him unless you want to pay for medical care that you obviously will not receive. Definitely not a compassionate doctor. It was a waste of my time and money. The only positive is that I didn't wait long and the waiting room was empty but now I can certainly see why.

My first visit with Dr. Hinson took place a couple of hours ago. When he entered the exam room and began to speak, I could not understand him because he was speaking rapidly (or, possibly he has a speech defect). He appeared to be in a hurry, and when I told him I wished to discuss treatment options for nocturia and tried to present him with a list of possible drug treatments, he refused even to look at the list. That refusal earns him a "bedside manner" score of zero. To add insult to injury, after spending no more than ten minutes with me, he checked off "expanded" visit on the office fee form. In no way do I consider a 10-minute visit "expanded." He should have marked the "brief" box on the form. He did make a recommendation regarding existing medications, but given my experience at the first visit, I am not certain I will return for a scheduled follow-up visit in three months.

After having multiple kidney stones, I decided to change docs because my former urologist only treated the problem, never helped me in stopping the formation of the stones and never bothered to find a reason why I get them yearly. So I had hope with Dr. Hinson. Wrong. First visit they asked me to give a specimen. Then had me go get an Xray. I came back after lunch (as told). They asked for another specimen. I told them they already had one but they acted like I was nuts. When I went to put it "the little door" for them to collect, I saw the 1st specimen was still in there!!! Xrays proved more stones so I had lithotripsy. Now, a few days later, I cannot get him to help with the problems I'm having post op! I made an appt yesterday and he wasn't even there. I only saw his nurse. And I paid a co-pay for that? Nothing happened! I'm pretty upset - still waiting on a call from the doc himself but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm going to find another doctor who cares… about his patients!

Dr. John Hinson is a great doctor. He is a strong Christian who's behavior as a doctor exhibits this.

Dr. Hinson has followed my problems almost from the beginning of his practice in Huntsville. I have nothing but high prais for his ability. His staff is warm and congenial and attentive to the patients needs and concerns. If you want a kind, considerate and knowledgeable doctor who above all else is a strong Christian, you reall would do well to consider Dr. Hinson

I have worked with dr hinson over the past 7 years and he is excellent. I recommend him to anyone who asks. he is great
