My care and experiences with Dr. John Kelly has been excellent.

He appears to be out of date. His take on my husband’s cancer was that he would die very soon and a treatment that had been recommended by another oncologist had zero chance of working. We than went to an out of state research cancer center. The treatment Dr. Kelly said would absolutely not work in fact worked quite well.

Now even more that I have transferred care out of this office I see what I could have been getting for care. When his office every month messed up on orders for my oral chemo and then sometimes it was late, he would oh no big deal. Well then why are my numbers getting worse every month. I had to make phone call after phone call to try and get my medication. I was stressed every single month over this. There were other issues as well.

Dr Kelly is a brilliant professional. Tells you the facts and does not sugar coat. He has a plan and sticks to it. He is in close contact with Huntsman Cancer Institute and uses all the latest treatments. My husband and I are pleased with his care.

My husband was diagnosed with rectal cancer, an endoscopic ultrasound indicated stage 3-4. When we went to see Dr. Kelly it seemed to us he never read my husband's chart and announced, you have stage 2, you're curable, you'll take 2 chemo pills a day and do some radiation. What? I said, the Dr. yesterday told us he is stage 3-4. To which Dr Kelly told me I misunderstood the medical terminology and that I would have to go to school or seminars to understand. I let him know that we had an appointment at UCSF for 2nd opinion, Dr Kelly told us we didn't need to do that, this was a standard treatment protocol and gave us a print out of the protocol. THANK GOD we followed our gut and went to UCSF, from the start they saw his records and we're highly concerned. My husband not only has stage 3 adenocarcinoma, but it has a signet ring feature that makes it extremely rare and difficult to treat. Dr. Kelly's treatment of 2 chemo pills and radiation would have never had an effect on this cancer.… Dr. Kelly didn't take the time to really look at my husband's case and what was really going on. Unless you have a standard type of cancer I would seek care else where.

I accompanied a friend to her last visit with this doctor. Her condition had deteriorated considerably since her last visit. She had previously utilized a walker to steady her, however, she was now so weak she could no longer stand and was in a wheel chair. She had been transported to the emergency room the night before by the paramedics for extreme pain. Social services determined she could no longer be alone in her home so she had contracted for 24 hour home care. Despite all of that, Dr. Kelly came into the room, made no inquiry about how she was doing but simply looked at his lap top, told her the treatment she was currently receiving was not working so he was going to resume the original treatments she had received that he believed had provided some positive results. End of visit. Her concierge physician visited her at her home the day after her appointment to gently and lovingly tell her that the treatments were not working and that she was terminal. Thirteen days… following the appointment with Dr. Kelly my friend died. She didn't live long enough to receive the treatment that had been prescribed.

Worst dr. that I have ever had for cancer.

Dr. Kelly was my uncle's doctor and all I can say is thank you to him and his staff. My uncle unfortunately did not beat cancer but I know he had the help he needed during his fight against this horrible disease.

Just 5 minutes into our first visit with Dr. Kelly, I knew it was a big mistake. Dealing with cancer patients takes a lot of compassion and empathy. He showed neither one of these traits.He may be great in diagnosis and treatment, but if he can't convey a caring attitude, his patients can not survive and thrive. There is no support system on his part which is essential in treating cancer patients. He belongs in a lab somewhere.
