Dr. John Karl Konkel, MD

I was in a traumatic car accident in 1987. Dr. Konkel did multiple surgeries on both feet, which were crushed as a result of the accident. I have struggled with feet issues every since due to the severity of the injuries but I am walking!! Initially it was thought that the right foot would need to be amputated. I now live in Florida and because of ongoing problems, I went to Andrews Institute in Pensacola Florida and after reviewing my x-rays and operative reports, I was informed that whoever did my surgeries was an outstanding surgeon and they didn't even know how I walked into their office. Due to the skill of Dr. Konkel, I am walking today. I recently moved to another part of Florida and had to have an x-ray of the right foot due to a neuroma. I was once again informed that due to technology back then, whoever did my surgery was an outstanding surgeon. So.this review not only comes from me but from multiple Orthopedic specialists I have seen over the years, including the… famous Andrews Institute who sees some of the greatest athletes in the country.

Most people write a review shortly after their contact with a physician. My review is about two procedures I had done by Doctor Konkel 10 and 11 years ago. I had both my knees replaced by Doctor Konkel, one 10 years and the other 11 years ago. I was extremely overweight at the time and for most of the last 11 years. Doctor Konkel did a fantastic job on my knees! He gave me all the information I needed to make a good decision about the procedure. He even told me the name of the manufacturer of my knees and a whole packet of info about the company. He also told me that I was going to get "female" knees. Up until then there were only male knees made and a woman's bones had to be adjusted to take a male knee replacement. He answered ALL my questions and even told me things that I didn't have the presence of mind to ask. I know I'm going on a bit, but it's totally necessary. My knees turned out PETFECTLY and they're still going strong! I had absolutely NO PROBLEMS with… either knee and I still don't. I have heard horror stories about failed knee replacements. If you are trying to find a Doctor to replace your knees, CALL HIM! He is very kind and caring. I had my procedures both done at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls and I highly recommend them too.

I found Dr Konkel to be arrogant in his manner. He said he wasn't sure what was wrong, but told me to stop PT and come back in two months because,"nothing would change substantially in that time." I went to an independent doctor who thought I had a torn meniscus, which was confirmed on MRI. This doctor wasn't even an orthopedic doc. Dr Konkel should have figured this out since this is a very common injury instead of making me wait. I lost my job because of being out for so long. I don't trust him at all!
