Dr. John Anthony Lafata, DO

Dr. LaFata is a nice man, and a decent doctor, but it is absolutely impossible to get an appointment with him. Ever since Mountain Medical got bought by the company that owns the hospital, they have become hard to get hold of. And when you do get hold of them, you often can't get an appointment for three, four or even fives weeks. I don't know whether they've just taken on too many patients, or whether it's because there are just too many retired people here who require a boatload of medical care, but it's really frustrating. Twice I've had to drive to the office to make an appointment because nobody answered the phone. The other irritating thing is that there is not central person who makes appointments - they always put you through to the doctor's assistant and then you always have to leave a message. Generally a really off-putting and inefficient way to run a medical practice. Waynesville in general is pretty horrible for medical care. I'm not sure why, but I'm thinking of trying an… Asheville practice instead.
