Dr. John Alan Macfarlane, MD

First off i wanted to spread my daughters vaccines out at her 2 month check up and he kept saying hope your daughter doesn't get whooping cough and telling me i was making a horrible desicion on top of going so far as saying the death in my family because of infant vaccines was not true and incorrect. Finally after him beating me down because of it and making fun of me i said go ahead and give it to her he said im not trying to pressure you into anything. ARE YOU SERIOUS HE HARPED ON ME FOR 30 MINS STRAIGHT! After that happened i was on edge but told him my daughters nose was congested so he pulled out these tubes and saline. I thought he was going to flush her nose out NOPE he shoved feeding tubes through her nose so hard i was so taken back i almost passed out! He told me by the way your handling this i would by a machine at cvs to do this for you because it ismore gentle. I feel like crying! My daughter screamed for an hour after that. I will never go back there again

We have been to him twice via phone consultations (via Teladoc.com). He ofcourse is very available; we have talked yo him at odd hours. His diagnosis has seemed to be accurate even via the phone consultations. He has good bedside manner even through the phone.

Okay, I read the other reviews- I'm sure Macfarlane didn't mean to crush my daughter's spirit and send me into a momma bear rage but he did never-the-less. I took my daughter to start her on the series of immunizations for HPV. McFarlane gave her a quick exam. Then he turned his computer screen to us started giving us a lecture on her BMI- that she was short and over the recommended BMI, had some extra flesh on her, she wasn't going to get any taller, etc. And I quote "I mean, look at her thighs." We sat there speechless. Okay, my daughter at the time was 5'2" and 125lbs.- not fat by along shot, not an athlete, but not fat. And though I've never used the word fat or talked about weight (focusing instead on health) my daughter has terrible self image- loathing her face and body (I'm not sure where I went wrong...) Well- thank you McFarlane! We went back to the car and we both burst into tears. When I got home I called him and gave him the tongue-lashing of his life. My daughter… is now in therapy- seriously! She obviously had issues before we went to MacFarlane- he was just the glob of noxious frosting on the cake. As I said, I'm sure he said all that without thinking but I would be cautious about exposing your child to that kind of thoughtlessness. Remember MacFarlane "First do know harm." Doctor Alan helped us immensely while we were raising our kids. He is an excellent doctor, understands kids (and parents), communicates well with kids (and parents). Both our kids have had complex health issues and he was "there" for us whenever we needed help, advice, encouragement and support.

Very caring, compasionate and understanding. Takes as much time as needed. Has experience and knowledge to help him.

I have taken both my children to Dr. MacFarlane since birth and he has always been professional, caring and given my family all the time we ever needed. My youngest daughter had some severe health problems as a young child and Dr. MacFarlane saved her life on more than one occasion. His diagnostic skills are amazing. I would recommend this MD to ANYONE without question.
