Dr John Pixley

If there was a lower star review I'd give it. Do not waste your time with this Dr. He cancels constantly. I was canceled several times without being seen. I've had to go to urgent care to get steroid shots to be able to walk, just to make it to my appointment that never happens. Always an excuse. Don't make the same mistake. Go to Dr P he goes above and beyond to get you in! I feel bad for his staff. They are so sweet. Must be extremely embarrassing for them.

I was taken in by a rude nurse, the doctor is residence was fair and tried her best, but Dr. Pixley is more of just a businessman that doesn't care for his patient's overall well being. He did not take time to thoroughly go through my concerns, and I left my visit bawling. Steer clear of this doctor.

I went to Dr. Pixley for a second opinion on my Lupus and RA. I didn't have any problems with the care I received. I was seen within a reasonable time for my appointment, the nurse was friendly and reassuring. When I saw Dr. Pixley he was professional and to the point which is what I expect from a doctor from the east coast. My husband is from Baltimore and it drives him crazy when I have small talk with the professionals I see. He feels it is a waste of their time. Dr. Pixley took the time to examine me and discuss what medicines I was on, even suggested some alternatives I might use if these did not work well for me. He even took the time to educate me on RA, Lupus, and Fibromyalgia something I have gotten little of with my other doctor. I feel he gave me quality time especially when I was only after a second opinion and not a "new patient". I noticed he was wearing hearing aids and made sure I looked at him and spoke clearly when I talked, that might have helped too.

After waiting for over an hour while sitting on the exam table, he finally wandered in eating a sandwich. He looked at my hands and told me I waited too long to see him! He did no further examination of me and wrote me a script without explanation. I have psoriatic arthritis and have been treated for many years. He was just the first doctor i had seen here in Lubbock. Never again!! Went back to my previous physician even though I have to travel more than two hours to see him

Waited over 6 months to get appointment. Appointment was a complete waste of my time & insurance company money. Dr. Pixley could care less about me or anything that I said to him....he did not listen to me at all. Put the computer between himself & me, complained constantly about the computer system, never even looked at me, or checked my joints for pain and swelling. I've had RA for over 20years & this is the worst experience I've had with any physician in any specialty! Do not recommend at all.

I only wish I had read these reviews before waiting for four months for a 10 minute appointment with the least caring physician I have ever met. I can only concur with everything said in these reviews. And this doesn't take into account the completely incompetent staff who lost my records not just once but a couple times. It was clear that the doctor never bothered to look at my records in advance because he didn't know until he walked in the door that the staff had lost them.

I was given a battery of tests including a 3D imaging of my full skeleton, then diagnosed with Fibromyalgia & 5 points of damage to my backbone with disc degeneration & arthritis. This concurred with my other doctors' diagnosis. Over one & a half years, after my initial diagnosis appointment, Dr Pixley generally asked me one or two questions each visit, then told me he would prescribe or adjust my medicine & leave the room. Several times, my 3 month checkup was delayed another 3 months. He often was forty-five minutes to an hour or more late for my appointments. During this time, he prescribed me several strong medications, including controlled substances. (This is acceptable under careful consideration when the medicines are safe to be used together & in the amounts appropriate to the combination, IMO.) During this time, I was very ignorant of prescription medicines, trusting Dr Pixley to prescribe me safely. I was given high dose oxycodone *with* a generous dose… allowance of benzodiazepine. I learned from my next & current doctor, a physiatrist, that the combination of opiates & benzodiazepine is the leading cause of prescription-caused death & that this has been known since 2005! Additionally, I was given a generous allowance of muscle relaxer, Flexeril, & sleeping pills. I did feel much better, as the pain & stiffness were so bad I struggled to simply walk through my home or even pick up dry cereal to feed myself. However, after I received a notice from his Reno, Nevada office group staying he was retiring, moving to Lubbuck, Texas, & going into research, I was referred to my current specialist who educated me on medicine, weaned me safely off benzodiazepine, & changed my prescription cocktail to one that safely complements my oxycodone. I am grateful that my new doctor is so attentive to both effectiveness *and* safety & that I did not die from the potentially deadly prescription combination Dr Pixley had me on during my year & a half with him. Please be careful, be educated.

I never made it to see the doctor. My family doctor referred me to this office because I am up to 800mg of allopurinol per day, and I still have very painful gout symptoms... It seems like a long outbreak that will never go away... Huge uric acid deposits on all my joints... My doctor set an appointment with this office 3 months in advance for a Thursday, the previous Friday heading a 3 day weekend I got a call at 5 pm to let me know that the much anticipated appointment had been canceled and I had to wait months to see the doctor... This isn't only unethical it is rude and inconsiderate... I see migraine tv spots where people talk about enduring pain for 30 minutes. I have been enduring my pain patiently for 3 months to see this doctor... Thank you Dr. Pixley. P.S. Your office manager telling me how much money you make per year is not an excuse for this substandard experience... With that office personnel it is no surprise that you barely earn $100K per year... And after all… those years of practice, not to mention the many years of school, make it very hard to believe... BTW it isn't my business, I don't know why she felt like putting it out there... Maybe time to change careers like the game of life...

This doctor is one of the worst I've ever met. I've seen him 3 times and found him rude and uncaring. I arrived at my appointment onetime. I was kept waiting for almost an hour when I had to leave for another appointment downstairs in the same building. I had was having severe pain in my left thumb area and could barely stand it. After my appointment was finished I went back upstairs to see if Dr Pixley had returned. Apparently he had come and gone. I sat in the waiting room and didn't know what to doâ?¦the pain was getting worse. A few minutes later he came off the elevator and when he heard I had been waiting he looked at me like I was in his way. He told me point blank that the clinic was closed and when I told him I was in pain and had been on time originally he made it sound like I was at faultâ?¦.said he has a cell phone and pager and didn't hear them overhead page him. I was there when they did all threeâ?¦.hearing his name called over and over as I went to… my second appointment. Even though he knew I was in severe pain he walked away telling the receptionist to schedule me for the following week. I broke down and cried. When I finally returned several days later he continued to be rude. I have since moved away to another state and am glad I will never see this horrible doctor again. He must lead a miserable life. I feel sorry for his current and future patients.

I was recommended actually to a femaleinternist - but for some reason got Dr. Pixley instead. It was just about the worsedoctor/patient visit I have ever had. Hewas horrible!! I had a list of some thingsthat was going on with me in regards to myarthritis. He shouted at me - examined mevery briefly - wasn't interested with thelist I had. I was out of there in 10 minutes. After having had arthritis for30 years and being this was my first visit to Dr. Pixley, it was just ridiculous. I left there in tears andtold the nurse that I never wanted tobe booked with him again.
