Dr. John W Polley

Dr. John Polley is very excited to have recently relocated his plastic surgery practice from Chicago, Illinois to Traverse City, Michigan. Dr. Polley is an internationally recognized, Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon who has spent over the last two decades practicing plastic surgery in Chicago where he held the position of Chairman of Plastic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center, as well as, was the director of two university cleft lip and palate/craniofacial centers During that time, he also was an attending plastic surgeon at Cook County Hospital.

Dr. Polley has extensive experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery for both children and adults. Particular areas of special interest include the treatment of individuals born with cleft lip, palate and other congenital or acquired facial problems, reconstruction following trauma, craniomaxillofacial, oral maxillofacial and aesthetic surgery.

Dr. Polley received both his undergraduate and medical degree …from Northwestern University in Chicago, and completed his plastic surgery residency at Butterworth Hospital (Spectrum) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. To further his level of training and expertise, he completed three fellowships – two in craniomaxillofacial surgery: the first at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan; and the second, at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The third fellowship in aesthetic surgery was completed at Baptist Hospital in Nashville Tennessee. Dr. Polley also completed additional training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Recognized internationally as a leader in craniomaxillofacial surgery, Dr. Polley has lectured and operated world-wide. Throughout his career, .Dr. Polley has been extensively involved in research and teaching and has published over 100 peer review articles in scientific journals and textbooks. Recognized as an innovator in plastic surgery by his peers, Dr. Polley has invented numerous medical devices and procedures, as well as, holds several US patents on medically related items. As a humanitarian, Dr. Polley has organized his own teams of specialists and support staff and lead over a dozen surgical mission trips to Central America.

Throughout his career, Dr. Polley’s commitment has been to achieve the best possible care and results for his patients by individualizing their treatment plan, whether their problems are major or minor. Because of this, Dr. Polley has received numerous accolades including “America’s Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly Press Ltd. as well as, “Top Doctor” in Chicago Magazine for over the past decade as well as many other regional and national awards.
