Dr. John Steven Portwood, MD

I have long hair. He laughed at my pain. Then he said that I was a drug addict. The man should have his license taken. I have to say that I was discriminated, because of my hair. He is not a good person or doctor. It turned out that I have a terribly damaged spine and other complications. I would not recommend him for anything. He is one of the worst people I've ever met.

Staff rude & uncaring. Dr Portwood might as well retire being he doesn’t care about patients any longer.

I was referred to him 2 times the 1st time was quite a while ago and I thought that perhaps I may have been on edge with my 1st visit so when I was referred to him a second time a couple ys later I thought ok I'll give him another chance, I have ankle pain,he tried to get me to believe it was neuropathy and I know the difference between nerve pain and bone pain, he ordered an MRI I got it and found myself another dr. I looked t my MRI and read my own findings, so I was not in the dark when I was told the results. I have 4 choices, but actually 1 due to my age and the fact that injections do not work on me (to many injections in my body in other areas I know my body don't respond like the txt book says it should)...I have nothing good to say about him.

unfortunately this is the first time I am giving a negative review for a medical doctor/specialist. I had several visits with the doctor and discussed mandatory total knee replacement surgery however I was told the scheduling was several months out. I was never given a "tentative" surgery date, no follow up phone call that I was finally scheduled, nothing from the office to indicate they even remembered I needed to be scheduled. I read on my own about cortisone shots to ease the discomfort while waiting for surgery and had two appointments for these injections the effects lasted about 2weeks instea of 6...still no news about surgery. I did the pcp clearance, paid for the expensive ekg to show I couldh handle surgery and still 6months later...nothing. I have left messages will no call back for status and am not seeking a different orthopaedic surgeon that hopefully will care about my health and follow through with what is recommended for my care!

This review is regarding the unpleasant experience i had in just trying to make an appointment to see Dr. Portwood. after several minutes on the phone with his "secretary" and her blatant rudeness. I called my PCP and asked to be referred to another Ortho. Spec.

I have gone to Dr Portwood for over 15 years and have never found a better surgeon, person or staff. There are some disaster Ortho's in Riverside like Community Ortho. where they could care less, over book and have zero bedside mannor. I have been an athlete most of my 48 years and Dr Portwood has always fixed what I have gone so far out to destroy. Even my Primary Care Dr's staff now go to him! Pretty good deal when the other local Dr's go there!!
