Dr. John Hans Rathauser, PhD

In my treatment with Dr. Rathauser, we partnered to uncover trauma that I was totally unaware of, but deeply and painfully suffering from. It was a difficult process to say the least but the modality of dynamic psychotherapy that he practices (Davanloo's-ISTDP) goes to the root cause of a patient's symptoms and so is not 'on the surface' and only about symptom relief. It aims for lasting character changes and an understanding of unconscious forces driving a patient to suffer and self sabotage. I can understand if someone feels it is not for them. However, the fact remains that Dr. Rathauser is not only a Master Clinician technically but also a therapist with tremendous integrity and someone who deeply cares about his patients on a human level.

After seeking help from multiple therapists over the years, I was helped in ways never before offered to be free of debilitating anxiety and depression. This form of therapy is very different from other forms of treatment and created changes that were simply life enhancing.

Following failed treatments in a variety of different therapeutic modalities, I was guided to Dr. Rathauser by a series of professionals, some of whom had seen him personally for therapy, others who referred to him. I was told that the work he does is unusual, intense, but often gets results where other forms of therapy fail. And happily this turned out to be the end result for me.

I was referred to Dr. Rathauser by a diff. doctor who praised him, but I was very disappointed. Dr. Rathauser seemed so intent on carrying out his "method" that I felt he doesn't listen to me. He's a textbook therapist, he kept on repeating the ISTDP stuff over and over without taking in if it's achieving anything. I wouldn't recommend him.
