Dr. John Thomas Riehl, MD

If you are lucky enough to find Dr. Riehl you will not be disappointed He is an excellent and caring physician. He is more interested in you and your well being than about building a mansion. My knee cap was broken in two and the lower half shattered. It was a very difficult and serious problem. Prior to seeing Dr. Riehl I had visited two other physicians and the looks on their faces when they saw my x-rays was anything but encouraging. Dr. Riehl looked at the x-rays and stated it was bad but he could fix it and proceeded to explain the process. He immediately instilled confidence in me and brought me some peace over the matter. The healing process and therapy is lengthy and painful but he has been concerned and caring all the way.

UofL University Hospital is one of the top trauma centers in the country but they receive much lower marks for follow-up care. I believe that Dr. RIEHL did everything he could for my ongoing condition that was originally brought on by a motor vehicle accident. Not only was his surgical skill in healing my broken clavicle excellent, it was his assistance and expertise that led to the eventual discovery of what was keeping me in so much pain, namely an infection at another surgical site for which he was not involved. For the first time in 9 months, I feel that I am able to heal completely, after another surgery of course, which also did not involve Dr. Riehl, but he is one of the reasons the problem was found. He was part of a team that saved my life twice. So, even though University Hospital leaves a lot more to be desired from their clinics, the trauma aspect is above the rest. Dr. Riehl recently left Louisville and I know for certain that the hospital is losing a great talent.
