Dr. John Roberts, MD

I have been coming to Dr. Roberts for over 19 years. He has done nothing but respect my wishes and make recommendations. There have been times when the staff and hospital have overbooked and had to wait longer to get procedures done. Unlike other people listed in the reviews, I see Dr. Roberts everytime before a procedure and have had office visits with him and his nurse. No complaints.

Amazing and listened to me. And he does exactly what you need. Very serious but good bed side manner and amazing surgeon .

For anyone who has back problems or an injured back, Dr. Roberts is the closest thing there is to a miracle worker. He may not be able to fix the problem, but he sure makes daily life easier. He has tremendous bedside manner and is very willing to listen. You got to be prepared to tell him where the most difficult areas are. He won't know what the problem is unless we tell him. Sometimes MRIs are not conclusive. He doesn't have a crystal ball. He always has been kind, professional, and very willing to listen. His staff has been very kind and very professional. I certainly recommend him. Everyone I know thinks the world of him. He really cares, you can't ask for more.

I have to strongly disagree with the negative observations in my case. I have been Dr. Roberts patient for chronic pancreatitis and spine arthiritis treatment for almost two years. When we begin treatment, under referral from our primary care physician, Dr. Roberts spent 30 minutes describing exactly what was happening, what our alternatives were for pain relief, and probable outcomes. His staff were cheerful and very cordial in every visit, discussion, or phone call I was able to adjust schedules, set up appointments with PA's, and Dr. Roberts as I thought necessary. I will continue to be his patient for quite some time.

I was a patient of Roberts for 3 years. All I ever got was excuses for my conditions, not solutions. I was getting injections 5 times a year in my neck and back. Roberts is never around. He started knocking his patients out before he came in the room for the procedure so he didn't have to talk to us. I went on vacation for 6 months and when I came back, after paying cash for my apt, and after calling ahead to make sure I would continue the same treatment and meds and see the same nurse as always, I had none of that. I saw a new nurse(he had to hire a bunch of new people after the other clinics closed) and the new nurse didn't even read my chart or know anything. My back was out and I didn't have an exam because she didn't know what she was doing. Then refused my treatment. I asked her to speak to Jamie or Roberts(ive always loved seeing Jamie because she seemed to care and spend time with her patients) and the new nurse refused. The new nurse told me to go to the emergency room or a… walk in clinic for my refill ive had for 3 years from Roberts. Then she had the nerve to ask me what I wanted with narcotics when she hasn't even looked at my chart or history. Funny how after they got audited while I was on vacation that my pain meds ive had for 3 years from the same doc disappeared out of their system but all my other meds were in the system. I was so offended and hurt by her inappropriate comments, lack of exam, lack of knowledge, I left bawling my eyes out. I called when I got home, in severe pain unable to barely walk and crooked, to request to never be seen by her again and to only schedule me with Jamie. I got a call back by a very nice woman, and she said she would speak to Roberts herself after how I was treated. I kept missing her call so I kept having to call back, so finally another woman called me to tell me they wouldn't take me back as a patient because I called too many times. I called them a month before I came back into town, they told me to just make sure I had my records from the doc I saw while I was gone, (which that record said I had too many steroids and injections from Roberts which caused arthritic damage at injection site), and I did everything I was told and they completely treated me like some joe off the street when I have done everything they asked for 3 years. When I first met Roberts I was told he was the best back surgeon, he kept saying I was too young for surgery and he wouldn't do surgery, truth is, hes not a surgeon, and I do need immediate surgery and he is only doing injections for the money at an avg of 5k a pop every 3 months. Im glad im no longer part of their ASSEMBLY LINE. Rude, ill mannered, lack of compassion for their patients, and bad practice. All it is come to find out is a chop shop of money. If you are reading this, I suggest you find another Pain Center, I referred many people to TNVPC and they have all been told the same thing I was. Recorded broken record.

This doctor only sees his patients during procedures. If you have a regular clinic appointment you see the nurse practitioner. How can a doctor get to know his patients if he never spends time with them? He doesn't listen to patients and when patients do research regarding their condition he gets offended and dismisses them as patients. Would never recommend him or the practice to anyone.

I had an early appt. because I am diabetic,had to wait over an hour & only because i spoke with the receptionist. The nurse was an air head , the Dr is only seen when he comes in to start the procedure ,he was very rude ,obnoxious & conceited.I have been his patient for almost 10 years but the last 4 have gone from bad to worst. On regular visits you never get to see the Dr. you only see the nurse practitioner .They can afford the luxury of being so incompetent & rude because they are the only pain management in a 100 miles radius.

I, like many of the other reviewers, only saw the doctor at the time of procedures. The last appointment I went to I specifically made to discuss other options with him, not the nurse. He wasn't there and he only showed up after I became very upset. Despite my repeated calls about trying to get a referral to a surgeon, they ignored that and assumed I was only there for the drugs. I had told them repeatedly that I wanted to do anything to fix the problem not keep getting medications, but they didn't listen, just assumed. They don't listen and are not very responsive when you call in to talk with them. I wouldn't recommend them ever.

Didn't see him unless it was for a procedure, period. His Nurse Practitioner, Jamie, is awesome, knowledgeable, caring and will help find the appropriate treatment plan which works for you.The staff is also great & efficient, however, trying to get a phone call returned can be problematic...one has to be persistant, but eventually your call will be returned.I would recommend this staff to anyone...not just the Dr., but his staff. In a year of being "his" patient I never saw him outside of a procedure room...so I cannot attest to his level of bedside manner or concern for my pain management, but those who work with him & for him more than enough make up for his absence in the exam tripods.

It seems I see a different Doctor than the other commenters. Dr. Roberts spends as much time with me as I need. He never makes me feel rushed and is always compassionate to my condition. We alwasy discuss all options available, whether they be good, bad or ugly. Thenmy wife and I ask questions or him and his nurse practionar and we come up with a course of action/plan together. I have even gone as much as say "Let me go home, research it more, think about it and get back with you." While this is happening we continued my current treatment plan. Even after a few follow-up visit Dr. Roberts lets me bring up the alternate treatment plan. When I was ready we proceeded on a new plan. Nothing is ever forced, and I do not feel pressured to complete any certain alternate treatment. I have asked for both increases in meds and decreases as well. On all occasions Dr. Roberts reviews everything and makes a decission on the facts. He is very patient. I will admit he does sometime take a little long… to get into my exam room, HOWEVER, I am understanding as he is spending time with other patients whom have questions just like I do, and I appreciate that he takes that time with not just me,but with others. I have never had a problem getting an appoitment, wheether in the mid-term or very very short term, i.e. today. Great Doctor whom I trust completely. would not let another Doctor complete the things he has done for me.
