Dr. John Richard Schwappach, MD

I'm not one to post reviews online, but honestly, I wish I could get a full refund from my visit. The only redeeming part of my time was having conversations with the staff other than him. The energy was positive and welcoming. Unfortunately and regrettably, once the actual doctor came in, I was met with rudeness and gaslighting and due to his reckless behavior when assessing my ankle, my fracture is in worse shape and more pain after he touched me. To preface, I provided his facility with a cd of my x-rays that were taken at an ER. He not only had the chance to examine and look at my xrays, he had the chance to look at my xrays after I already explained in detail what happened with my injury. I said my talus was fractured. He looked at me like I was crazy and told me that he didn't see that in my x-rays and proceeded to poke and prod my ankle with disregard to the pain I was expressing. He condescendingly asked why I couldn't put weight on it after 10 days and when I winced and was… audibly in pain, he told me that I shouldn't hurt right there. I firmly said that it did hurt, so he left to go look at the x-rays again. My partner and I were in shock that I was being gaslit and disrespected in such a way. When he came back in, he said in surprise that, "oh I was telling the truth about my broken ankle." Very impersonal. I felt judged and the only thing the $300 gave me were cellphone pictures the nurse took of my x-ray from the CD I provided, and the candy from the bowl in the front room. His disregard for the description of my injury as well as the pain I was experiencing due to his reckless touch has caused my healing to backslide. It was a waste of money just to get hurt further.

Very dissatisfied with my mothers treatment. Dr. Schwappach did not value her voice in her treatment he pushed her to make decisions that were not good for her and told her that he would not help her get into a rehab facility unless she went along with what he wanted. Not a good doctor. I found his treatment philosophy self serving and manipulative.

His decision on how to deal with my broken hip was to pin it not replace it. The result is my leg is significantly shorter due to the bones not being realigned before pinning it. A year later I went to another surgeon and he feels the pain and a shortened leg can be fixed by a complete replacenent. Dr Schwappach told me upon my complaints that these things sometimes happen. I have replacement surgery scheduled and am expecting getting back to nearly normal functioning. His mistakes have been very costly in both pain and dollars with severe loss of capabilities.

I love Dr. John Schwappach essence of his caring personality with dealing with people. I have witnessed professionalism when I received my total knee replacement, which for some reason went amok and I developed Staph infection. I enjoyed seeing him each morning around 5 or 6 in the morning as I was in the hospital when he would do his daily rounds. He would always ask if I needed anything else and then gave his nice smile as he left the room. Lately my other leg has been bothering me, so I decided to get an injection. Dr. Schwappach's assistant prepared my leg and gave me the injection. This was the first time I have every felt the injection as one that was painful. I jumped twice as she seemed to stick me with the needle rather than gently guide the needle in my knee cap area. His assistant did not have a nice touch with the needle as the little hole it made began to fill up with blood. It had been a week since my injection and my knee began to cause me pain. To my surprise I felt… pain in my kneecap just one week after an injection, where it would normally last me about seven months. I looked down at my knee and a bruise the size of an apricot engulfed the injection area. This was the first time I had an negative experience. The new assistant might need to go back to injecting the orange to find that nice touch, because she definitely does not contain the warmth and gentle touch as Dr. Schwappach.

I am giving him 1 star because I have to but he performed a surgery where I needed a bunch of hardware placed after being hit by a car. Well 3 months go by and I get a hole in my skin all of a sudden and he didn't want to do anything until the plastic surgeon and infectious disease insisted. Then I had to have all the hardware removed and have a halo fixture placed which was incredibly painful. After that surgery he didn't order pain meds so I ended up in a pain crisis that had to be treated with a pain pump for 36 hours. Then he didn't order a diet for me so they weren't allowed to feed me food. Then the halo comes off and directly after surgery, the next day, infectious disease find another infection at one of the pin sites that I called him about complaining that it was really painful, red and oozing but he didn't want to address it. After that was healed I had to go every month or so for a follow up. I ended waiting in his office for 3 hours one time. The last time I was in there… I was waiting in an exam room for the doctor and his assistant came in and asked me in a very condescending tone if I was just going to sit there all day. I told her that was fine but the doctor hadn't seen me yet. Now, for the last year I have had several soft tissue infections, spontaneous wounds and abscesses. I went to my PCP and him and another surgeon sent me in for another MRI and I have learned that I still have osteomyelitis which appears to be chronic, meaning its been there all along, and he left some hardware in my body causing the infection to never have really gone away. I now have to have another surgery to clean it out and if it won't heal again, another skin graft which would be my 3rd one and have to be on iv antibiotics for probably 2 months or more.

Do NOT have Dr. John Schwappach do ANY...ANY surgeries on you. Get a second opinion first. Dr. John Schwappach was trying to force surgery. Dr. John Schwappach is extremely arrogant and very rude. I did NOT have surgery as Dr. John Schwappach was trying to force. Instead I got a second opinion right down the street from Dr. Schwappach, and it is a good thing I did. The second ortho doctor said no surgery is needed, and if you had surgery, there is a good chance you would not be able to walk again. I continued seeing the second ortho doctor, and I never did have surgery, and my leg is just fine...I walk and run without any problems. If I could, I would give a negative rating. Worst doctor I have ever been too....hands down!!!! Run far away from this doctor and go elsewhere. You will be SO glad that you did.

He told me that from the notes he was reading that my employer was going to let me go and I needed to find a new job. When I confronted my employer with this information, they called him and he denied he ever said this to me. I was terminated due to dishonesty. I called him after being terminated and told him what happened. He asked what he could do and I told him to tell the truth and he said he could not due to his practice.

Very personable, seems responsible and caring

Dr. Schwappach has a very pleasant and warm bedside manner. Genuine care and concern for best treatment plan for resolution. Staff was very courteous and professional.I feel he is one of the best Doctors I've ever been to.
