Dr. John Mark Shie, MD

I am very disappointed in my last visit. I had been going to Dr. Shie for a few years, and last year was the experience that led me to find a different OBGYN. With a med student in the room, he tried to argue with me about me having (or not having) BV - something I've had many times before - and also for needing a yeast infection pill after the BV treatment. He argued that the BV treatment "did not cause a yeast infection" and refused me my yeast pill. This has been proven to be incorrect, as I have proof of it happening the last time I had the treatment with another OBGYN. He made me feel embarrassed in front of the med student (poor thing was standing there all awkward), and like I was incompetent and did not know my own body. He seemed to be in a rush and I felt more like a number in his charts than a human being. I would never trust someone to touch/examine me again who does not even listen to a thing I say. I am no longer returning to this practice and have found someone else.

Delivered 3 of my 6 kids, had the nurse give me pain medication while in labor after it was "too late" for anything. Was just enough too.

Needs new staffing for nursing and surgery scheduling! Their in no hurry! Dont return calls!

If I wanted a doctor who was quick and efficient with my exam without causing much discomfort, he would be fine but I prefer a doctor who I am comfortable with. Two exams in a row he did not read my charts as was evidenced by writing the wrong rx at one appointment. I felt that his bedside manner was about as warm as a rock. He didn't seem to care about my questions and gave me answers that seemed to have little if any medical relevance. Furthermore, I felt uncomfortable about an implication he made regarding my relationship, as I was not yet married to my husband. Some people I know think he's great, but I just felt uncomfortable and like this wasn't a good fit for me considering I want to establish a good relationship with a doctor before I have children. I'll pass on an indifferent and detached professional who makes me feel judged and discouraged to ask questions.
