Dr. John Taylor Smith, MD

Dr. John T. Smith was my surgeon 17 years ago. I had/have a rare condition known as Blount's Disease, which is like being bowlegged but its only half the leg (from the hip to the knee or knee to ankle). I was diagnosed before the age of 3 and had to wait until after I turned 3 to receive the surgery to correct this abnormality. I am able to walk, live a "normal" childhood, and achieve my wildest dreams because of Dr. Smith. Although I don't vividly remember Dr. Smith, I will forever remember the enormously positive impact this amazing man had in my life! I hope one day I can meet him again to personally thank him and show him how amazing his work turned out. Thanks for everything you did for me Dr. Smith! You truly are my hero!! I would recommend this surgeon to anyone and everyone without a doubt!

Dr. Smith corrected our daughter's spine two weeks ago. She had a 50 degree curvature at the time. We were frightened to say the least! Dr. Smith is amazing and took EXCELLENT care of our daughter. He is the only one that I would trust to perform this type of surgery. Thank you Dr. Smith!

Dr Smith performed my scoliosis surgery with perfection and care! I felt so taken care of, I'm so grateful to have had him! My back is healthier than ever!

My experience was aweful. My son broke his arm on a Monday and my wife took him to our primary care physician. He said he doesn't set children's bones, so he called Primary Children's Hospital and they set an appointment for Wednesday that same week. My wife and I took our boy to the appointment and were immediately met with Mr. Smith's derision. His first words to us were mocking our physician's work with the splint on my son's arm. Next, he said in as condescending a tone as he could muster, "Well, we could put a cast on it and hope it turns out straight..." to which we asked, "what should we do?" He then proceded to tell my wife that she should have brought her straight to the ER at his hospital and got the boy what he termed, "real medical treatment". We were still not entirely sure if he was going to do anything, so I asked, "so what should we do now?" to which he answered, "the right thing to do would be to get him to the ER and set the bones there..." after which he just left… the room and left us standing there scartching our heads. We found our way to the ER and told them what Mr. Smith told us. In summation, what I disliked about Mr. Smith was his bedside manner. I have never been so disrespected in my life. Why did he need to call our parenting skills into question? We took our son to a healthcare facility. Our physician called his office and they are the ones who told us not to bring him in for 2 days. I don't understand his need to belittle us with his cerebral, taunting remarks. What was the point? Was he trying to make me angry? Was he trying to be funny? I am surprised that we had to pry every bit of information we got from him by asking him repeatedly what we should do. It seems to me that even if he thought we were horrible parents he should show at least a morsel of concern for a four-year-old boy with a broken arm, but apparently that was too much for measley patients like us to ask. In shor, I will never take my child there again and I would never recommend him to anybody--not even my bitterest enemy.

Awful experience! My daughter was in his care for 3 years. He never did any studies, other than a plain xray. She was diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis. The real problem, or what caused her scoliosis was a chiari malformation she was born with. If he would've done surgery for "scoliosis", Mr Smith would've found more to deal with, and according to his own words: "that would've been a BIG PROBLEM". Why didn't he run anymore tests before jumping to conclusions?. Overall experience: He can care less about his patients. Awful bedside manners, did not spend time with us. I wouldn't recommend him to my worse enemy!

My daughter was diagnosed at birth with the rare condition in which one side of the body seems to grow faster than the other this condition is called Hemihypertrophy. Dr. John Smith performed surgery on my daughter twice, the first time was to place staples into the growth plate above the knee to prevent the overgrowth, the second time was to remove the staples. The disease can be caused by genetic factors, and it can also occur by chance. While this may be "normal", there are certain serious conditions that may be associated with this type of growth pattern. These include cancer of the kidney, cancer of the liver, and a condition called Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome. Dr. John Smith checked twice per year as a child (my daughter is cancer free). Dr. John Smith is truly the GREATEST!
