Education and Experience
Dr. John Michael Smith has been providing comprehensive pediatric dental care since 1985. He attended the University of Tennessee’s Center for Health Sciences where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery, with honors. He continued on to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to complete his Pediatric Dental Residency training and was honored to be chosen as the chief surgical resident.
Providing quality pediatric dentistry requires ongoing continuing education. Dr. Smith is constantly training to expand and improve techniques for your child's benefit. Dr. Smith treats patients and is on staff at …University Hospitals of Cleveland, Southwest General Hospital and Big Creek Surgery Center where he performs dentistry under general anesthesia when it is the best option for a child.
Dr. Smith is Board Certified in the specialty of pediatric dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. This certification provides assurance to the public that he has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite to the delivery of quality patient care.
He maintains certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He is an active member in the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association, the Greater Cleveland Dental Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Smith is honored to once again be nominated as one of Cleveland's Best Dentists by his peers.
Outside the Office
Dr. Smith is a native of Davenport, Iowa, and currently resides in Broadview Heights with his wife and business manager, Cindy, and their lab, Sam. They have three grown children. Ben is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and is a Captain in the Army, currently stationed in Germany. Lindsay is a successful law student at The Ohio State University, and Matt is actively working on his undergraduate degree also at OSU. In his free time, Dr. Smith enjoys cooking and grilling, keeping up with current events and politics, and hunting and playing with his dog.
